Crowbar's are actually very useful, can tear clothes into rags, make bone hooks, open cans, mine stones etc. Obviously you still need a knife but it can help your knife go further, or can be used to get the stones for a stone knife.
@Nitno9 ай бұрын
That is a really good point for sure. Many more uses than I sort of gave it credit in the moment.
@lactoseintolerantgaming27119 ай бұрын
Great point about crowbar being both bladed and blunt for crafting purposes. I like to keep stones on me when fresh spawn as they take up one space and can turned into a knife if your better one gets ruined.

I was about to leave the exact same comment until I seen yours. Starting out crowbars are lifesavers because of what you mentioned. Cutting up clothes and you can cut up way more rags with the crowbar before it ruins than a knifes. Plus mining stones to make knives. And carry one extra stone so you can make a knife using only one bone instead of two. If Im just starting out I always pick up a crowbar if I find one.

Hey! Just taking this opportunity to stop lurking a moment and say a heartfelt "Thank you, Nitno!" for these types of videos. They have helped me on my journey to feel like I'm making progress in DayZ. I'm now reliably able to make it off the coast and into mid-tier areas. Much of the credit for that goes to you. I'm probably never going to be a PvP goddess, but I'm definitely getting better at survival. Again, thank you.

Start up focus guide: 1.Knife (Sledgehammer/Hammer/Crowbar - hit rock OR combine 2 bone) 2. Rags (sharp items INCLUDING crowbar) 3. Rope (Combine 2 full stacked rags “6” to make rope or cut cuts) These are the ESSENTIALS to start off, and crowbar is HIGHLY HIGHLY valuable for fresh spawning. Demonstration: Use knife to cut (damage or utility) use rags for hand wraps or (PVP) footwraps. Use rope to make belt for knife to save inventory room (bone knife and stone knife not available to be held in belt) once you have these, you can use rope (even untie rope belt) to make fishing rod and catch fish on your way north, and can use bones from fishing to always have a knife indefinitely. All that is mentioned above is why chickens or roosters are 100% none argument winnable are essential in starting. They are extremely common on coast, and can now be carried in inventory to be cut up once you find an obvious sharp object in a shed. Once cut up, they provide all 3 essentials listed above AND FOOD!!!!! Great hunting/surviving! Hope I helped.

You can apparently use just about any hard item to break off stone from a large boulder: I've used screwdrivers for this purpose and it works a treat.
@owenhall40289 ай бұрын
Minor point, but I always turn my rope into a rope belt. Gets the rope & knife out of your inventory, which saves 6 slots. If you end up needing the rope to make a bag or fish with or whatever else you can just untie it and use it for whatever you need, then turn it back into a belt when you're done. The tying & untying doesn't appear to affect the durof the rope as far as i can tell

in my opinion , specially as a new player .. don't use a map , don't log out during nighttime either ... the fun part of DayZ is that it has no guide or map. Not knowing whats going on and having to figure things out for yourself as you go is basically the vibe of the game .. sure you will get lost and you'll probably die more often in the beginning but after a few runs you'll learn locations as you progress

This is great... I know content like this helps a lot of players get ahead and most of the new players I've interacted with say it's beneficial. Though it's great info many have a hard time putting it all together in game without somewhere to "practice" and apply your lessons- To help them out a bit more I started a Bambi University with stations that are set up to let them try out a bunch of this stuff with an instructor. Helps cover the basics like essential crafting, melee combat (armed / unarmed), pistol / auto / hunting rifle shooting and a little early game beneficial knowledge like making the most use out of resources. The absolute best advice I ever received was - "Don't get attached to items & runs." You will die in DayZ......A LOT! But that is part of the experience & it's really not that bad starting over because you learn new things each death & maybe this go will have better stuff or a more memorable experience. Story time. I will never forget the first time I ran into a friendly player. We stuck together for almost 5 hours straight before a group of cannibals ambushed us, tied us up, took most of our gear & force fed us "fresh meat" before letting us go. My new friend couldn't handle the thought of being a cannibal & decided to crowbar himself while I was out looking for replacement gear. "I'm sorry my friend. I can go on knowing what human tastes like.....Find them, make them pay." Radio silence. Rest in piece Henry.........you were delicious.

Reminds me of another game. Fallout 4. Almost all animals will attack you. Even bugs. Eating animal meat, even bugs, will keep you alive. Raw is low value food that has radiation. Cooked is higher value food and no rads. Some players can't handle eating bugs because it's "gross". Some players can't handle eating any animal meat at all. Survivors will eat any cooked animal meat, including bugs.

Since they last updated the loot distribution, I've noticed chlorine tabs are more prolific than the containers we use to keep water in. I the only time I even bother with a pump, is sometimes to fill a jerry can to store in my farm stash. Yes, I know, you don't need potable water to plant crops... but I usually plant in tier 4 and let them grow while I sort loot, clean weapons, etc... so it's convenient to have water on-hand for the hour or so.

To add, town zombies also spawn head wear, backpacks and knives along with food, also when checking a buildings safely, check behind the door right away when ever possible, alot of players like to camp out behind the door for a easy kill in the back. A Plate armor vest might sound good and is good safety but it is also the heaviest item to grab which results in very low stamina. If you can find one, grab a tatical backpack which normally spawn in the nw airfield, this back oack can ne used as a riot shield bc the pack is bullet proof, which is also the rarest item. last thing that is very important. Wear any mask or face protection at all times, alot of crazy olayers will secretly try and feed you human meat, with a mask it orevents it, as a result you first will throw up then after thirty minutes Koro will kick in and their is no cure, you historically start laughing and also get a twitch witch makes it hard to shoot. The more human meat eaten the worse Koro will be.

Something I always do is when I get food I eat it almost immediately, it saves an inventory spot, plus a bandit can't take food out your stomach.

Hey great fresh spawn vid. I would also add the color dots on the inventory quicker to know what ruined or not. I love following power lines it will allay take you somewhere.
@Nitno9 ай бұрын
Yep power lines are clutch!
@edmartin8757 ай бұрын
I like power lines because you don't have to be right under them to follow them. I think they are safer than the roads, but even safer still when you follow them while in the nearby woods or brush. As long as you can see the power lines, you can follow them.

dont drop a rope for space early game... put in your hands and craft a belt. now you can even stow your knife in it! later if you need it for fishing or backpack or what ever put the belt in your hands and craft it back into a rope.

What do you do when you can't find a vessel to carry your water? I have 100hrs or so and recently died while inland because I don't know where the wells are at and didn't have a plastic bottle or canteen
@Nitno9 ай бұрын
That can be tough. Vessels are bottles, canteens, cooking pots, and Jerrycans. Sometimes I'll empty then lug around a jerrycan filled with water till I find a better solution. Another trick is if you have a Tetra Pills, you can pop a pill preemptively then drink from a pond or stream, and you'll not get sick with cholera. I only do that in dire situations.

Great video. I've just started playing DayZ, have like 10 hours in the game and struggle sometimes with the start phase. Sometimes it's water, sometimes it's food, sometimes zombies but this video shows the way. Looking forward for Part 2. I do have a question though, from how far can other players hear footsteps or noises like gun reloading, healing, etc???
@Nitno9 ай бұрын
Hmm I'm not sure the exact distance on reload. I want to say like 30 feet.

Just got this game a couple of days ago ! It’s really confusing, and every game I play , I found all towns looted, literally every door is already open 🙄
@Nitno8 ай бұрын
It can really be rough getting started. Just stick with it. The deeper into the map you go it does get a bit easier to get loot.

HEY! Pretty good run. A few things I would have done different is swapped that blue rain coat for the black one you passed up, checked the hospital for any meds or paramedic clothes, and checked a few outhouses for sharpening stones for those knives. Great start though. What was the purple thing in the grass by the water pump?
@Nitno9 ай бұрын
Thanks, all good advice there! I think that was a fireworks box that a player must have left there. Maybe the farmer who made the plot.

Its a waste using a knife to cut rags when you have a crowbar that you could cut up ten times more before it wears down. I would use the crowbar ti cut up a few stacks of rags then mine four or five stones to make more knives and save one ti comnine with a single bone to make a bone knife.
