I started buying a fiber supplement because my husband (at 76) and I (at 73) both have had trouble with regularity. I had tried a version in capsules from Dr. Gundry, which was just not enough, in quantity. I’ve tried Emma, which probably helps, but not enough. Finally I found one that was really enough: Peak Bioboost. It comes as a white powder and you put a whole SCOOP in your coffee or tea. You can take it twice a day but I’ve not found that to be necessary. The active ingredients are Inulin (from Jerusalem artichoke) and VG FOS (fructooligosaccharide), acacia gum, and XOS (xylioligosaccharide, and a small amount of magnesium citrate. I also find the need to boost my fat intake using MCT oil as needed. The supplement keeps me regular, the fat makes it comfortable, if you know what I mean. The MCT oil brand I use is Garden of Life, whose products I’ve used on and off since 2004. If you need help to have comfortable, regular BMs, you need it! Make sure you get what works for you and yours-no need to suffer. Hope this helps.

That whole "bristle brush" cleaning out the colon theory messed up my colon. My ulcerative colitis did not go into remission until decades later when I finally cut out all fiber. Now I can have some soluable fiber without consequences. Some of us do fine not clogging up the colon so it needs a bristle brush.

I need to be very careful with fibre as well. Any fibre from grains causes constipation. I can handle tiny amounts of chia or flax. A few nuts. I use konjac powder as a thickener. But if I have the noodles, even 1/4 serving is iffy. I can eat vegetables without issue. I limit fruit to in season, local, berries, cooked apple from our trees, for pork, except the Christmas clementine. Those I buy. But that is the frutose, not fibre. I wonder who paid for the study?

Love it when topics come out and it touches on something you've been looking into. I was doing some research on soluble fibre, specifically inulin combined with psyllium and effects on the gut and gas. For those concerned about bloating or who for health reasons stay away from fiber you can search the following for this study: Neurogastroenterology Original research Psyllium reduces inulin-induced colonic gas production in IBS: MRI and in vitro fermentation studies Would be interesting if Thomas knows of any further research regarding this. Great video Thomas. The only thing I would say is that resistance starch may Trump all as far as the best food for your gut microbiome. Aside from that and no offense, but a big issue that gets overlooked by most people is that consuming additional fibre without having sufficent gut microbiome diversity or just severely lacking needed species in your gut means that all the fibre consumption in the world will likely not benefit you and you will po*p it all out as you won’t have the gut microbes to consume it This is literally like putting the cart before the horse. A landmark study by Professor Christopher Gardner and Eric Sonnenberg showed exactly that Study participants consisted of those who consumed fibre only from high fibre vs those who consumed kimchi and other fermented vegetables, vegetable brine drinks, and kombucha tea. Those on the high fiber diet were eating fruits and vegetables, legumes, seeds, whole grains, and nuts but did not have any of the nineteen inflammatory proteins decrease. Their microbiome diversity for the most part stayed the same and did not increase like the fermented food group. Those participants eating fermented foods had four types of immune cells that showed less activation, and they also experienced a decrease in nineteen inflammatory protein levels measured in blood samples. One of these proteins, interleukin 6, has been linked to conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Type 2 diabetes, and chronic stress. Now in the interests of fairness and to play Devil’s Advocate given long enough perhaps the high fibre group could have slowly grown a greater diversity of gut microbial species. The ongoing American Gut Project that collects and looks at foods consumed by participants has noted that the greater the diversity of gut microbe species the healthier participants tend to be, all other things being equal. They discovered that one way to expand gut microbial species is to expand consumption of up to 30 vegetables a week but including different nuts and spices also counts. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to try fermented foods to accomplish the same before attempting to take on such a herculean task.

Quite a bit of white rice, fish, meat, vegetables for lunch and dinner. Doesn't flax decrease testosterone?
@Leocifre
@Leocifre 4 ай бұрын
flax has compounds that bind to estrogen receptors. thing is, it just binds to them but does not activate any estrogen like effects. also, when they are bound, they are not available for proper estrogen to bind to. so its basically an estrogen-blocker.

@@Leocifredefinitely not an estrogen blocker. It doesnt work like that. Not saying it increases estrogen, but it absolutely does not block estrogen.

I have used soluble fiber for years. I just looked at the ingredient. It is dextrin. Your thoughts please.

Most dextrins are used as adhesives for paper products. Only some white dextrins are used in food and added in very small concentration. That should give you a hint whether to consume it or not.

i'm ok with this video until your concluding remarks. evidence provides us with tested theories that let draw upon upon actionable practices. but taking it upon yourself to call this evidence based on wishful thinking is not the same. i don't disagree with much you say. but how you say it.

Be mindful of the fibre sources that are more or less beneficial for the male endocrine system eg. Anti androgenic, pro-estrogen, flax etc. DHT, has anti-estrogen protections, so inhibiting it will only making you start transitioning into a female. 😂 Unless you want gyno? 😂😂😂
