So happy to see love for TotK, especially since I’ve seen a lot of people switch up on the game since release. TotK is tied with dark souls 1 as my favorite game of all time, it completely redefined gaming for me and I am so grateful to have experienced such a game in my lifetime. :,-)

I remember paying $70 for Chrono Trigger when it first released. I mowed lawns all summer to get the money and it was worth it. Same with Tears of the Kingdom. The amount of care, detail and polish Nintendo put on this and Breath of the Wild makes everyone else look LAZY. These games are a work of art like Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, etc.

I just finished tears of the kingdom yesterday and man it was great. I never played BOTW before last year and friends kept telling me to play that before moving on to TOTK since I bought it first than getting BOTW. So having to play both games, I'd say I definitely enjoyed the improvement they did with TOTK. The ability to build and fuse items, to go up the ceiling, autobuild, and rewind, its impressive. I don't get the idea of calling TOTK as an over glorified DLC when we could probably say the same to Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time. If it ain't broke, don't fix it type of feeling. BOTW gameplay mechanics and interesting story felt so simple that it was a breeze for me but when playing TOTK at first was complex, I pretty much didn't know what zoanite were used for, what the gatcha device machine was, or where to start. But thankfully I got the hang of it after first completing Rito Village. If I had to criticize or give my feedback on what I didn't like in TOTK, I would say the sky islands and the story. The sky island tutorial was amazing, I was honestly expecting more islands like that other than Sidon or Tulin. The story I had no idea what was going, Zelda is suddenly in the past and the Sages cutscenes get really repetitive. I was expecting Ganondorf to make some ruckus in Hyrule or idk see more cutscenes with him during the game than making a Zelda puppet. Not much backstory with Ganon, not much character development, the game missions feel really non-linear. But listing the good things I love about the game was the depth, I like the idea of having to explore in the dark and go through caverns in the overworld. Fusing rocks to mine for ore, collecting zoanite, and breaking rocks to find secrets. The concept of your hearts being infected by gloom and only sunlight can cure it. The bosses however were kinda of unique but quite easy compared to BOTW. I'd say the bosses in BOTW were very hard but in TOTK were not difficult. So in the end of this rambling, is TOTK worth 70 dollars?????? I don't know, I pretty much got this for 50 dollars with the voucher.

MM made a whole new world and a unique gameplay loop not replicated in every other zelda. Totk has the same formula as botw, same world as botw and a lacklustre story. It is glorified DLC

They call TOTK a DLC, because its intended to be one, and the first news we got was that it will be a DLC. The dev team had soo many ideas since that they decided to make a new game, thatis why TOTK is a "DLC"

This was probably my first real experience with a 3d Zelda game. Played, beat and loved the hell out of most of the 2d games. Then I got to play this gem. To be fair, it took some time getting used to for me and initially I didn't think it was worth the price. But I ended up loving it and thinking it was well worth it.

I had points to put in this comment but then the dinosaur train b roll started happening and the psychic damage made me hard reboot. Basically, it’s nice to hear love for this game. Obviously no game is perfect, but I was really impressed with the clear efforts made for new system design, polishing botw systems to feel better, and the progression of story themes, and I feel like I hear a lot of negativity about it for pretty petty grievances. This was a nice little positivity boost that made me happy, even as aaa gaming grows more and more lamentable. Thanks!

Its true, when it comes to the gaming industry quality and price have no correlation. People should be picky. Im patient and always have a backlog, so I extremely rarely pay full price for a game. But Elden Ring, God of War 1&2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon 1&2, and Cyberpunk 2077 have all been worth it.

Did I find the game to be worth $70? No, but I knew it wasn’t going to be for me after BOTW. The standard open world sandbox survival games are not one of those genres I enjoy and have been pretty stagnant for close to 15 years, but it’s cool that others are passionate about the new entries. Favorite entry would either be OOT or ALTTP. A special nod to Adventures of Link. Outside of the final dungeon(which will always suck), AOL is getting a new appreciation, probably due to the pc version.

@seabicuit72478 ай бұрын
Coincidentally I’ve had the Wild series fans dismiss my opinion as “old good, new bad” before. The toxicity on both sides is a shame really, I am open to opposing view points as it may open my mind to something that I overlooked. When there’s no openness, it’s just time to move on. The traditional formula of ALTTP through TP is the formula I enjoyed for the series. I’ve tried the open world survival sandbox genre starting with GTA 3 or Morrowind through Red Dead 2 and it just isn’t something I enjoyed. As a Zelda fan since day 1, I’m bummed with the choice to go this route, but my dislike of the genre doesn’t change the fact that the Wild series are well made polished games. As well as lucrative so I wouldn’t expect them to change course. At most I’d just hope for a side series for the traditional formula. Doesn’t have to be as grandiose as TP or the Wild games, maybe akin to the ALBW or ALTTP style.

BG3 (worth significantly more than $70). Alan Wake 2. Elden Ring. GoW Ragnarok. CP2077 Phantom Liberty. Remnant 2. Lies of P. Want me to go on? Bc I can name like 10 more games in the last 2 years that not only are worth $70 or more, but are as good as or significantly better than TOTK. I love TOTK, but this title is the most “I have only ever played Nintendo games” title I’ve ever seen.

Was a big disappointment for me after BotW. I put in 140 in BotW and 110+ in TotK. I realised i forced myself for the most part. There were good ideas but imo poorly executed. Felt like a very very large dlc. I think TotK is an objectively better game but it's hard to feel that impact if you've played BotW. Discovery is eliminated, and if you don't enjoy building and creativity, you're left with the dungeons and story. Which have have been improved in some ways but not in others (zora dungeon, post dungeon dialogue, non linearity not working for this one, people not acknowledging that they've met Link before, people not going crazy after you've told them about Zelda being the dragon. Etc)
@chooongusbug7248 ай бұрын
You may wanna rethink "nobody remembers Link" that's such a nothing argument. Look up Capt. Burgerson's video on that subject and for someone who played BotW, you obviously forgot how Link introduced himself to NPCs. His dialog options were a variant of "I'm a traveler" Or "I'm nobody important" He never straight up tells people in BotW, "hey y'all, I'm the hero...please praise me" what a nothing argument lol
@zacharyolerich75218 ай бұрын
That's interesting, I feel like if you play Botw first it gives Totk more impact, since you get to see how the world has changed or how npcs have changed and grown. If you didn't play Botw you would not get to experience that.

You can make a lot of critiques of Totk, but one thing you can't call it is lazy. Ultrahand and fuse alone prove that. Also, a retcon? It doesn't really retcon anything since obviously these games take place so far into the timeline that it can't retcon anything about the lore. I know this is a rage bait comment but I've already written this much down.
