Seasons 5-8 weren’t nearly as good as 1,3,4. Production quality elsewhere may have gone up but plot and dialogue got way worse.

It's when their hands became tied due to lack of future books. They couldn't piggyback off of Martin's writing half so much once they started having plot threads that wouldn't continue and thus couldn't be simplified without risking the removal of foreshadowing. The last seasons are excellent examples of how skilled Benioff, Weiss, and their team are as writers, so it's not really surprising that once they got closer to the frayed end of the series, they began making it worse and worse.

In the books it's seems quite plausible that Oberyn had been slowly poisoning Tywin before Tyrion finished the job. Essentially Tywin was a marked man the moment Oberyn arrived in King's Landing.

We all loved him. I will never forget the look on a friends face when we watched the trial episode the first time together. And it was a anxiety filled experience for him 😂 at the beginning he thought oberyn would immediately die and was already shaking his head but you know how the fight went. Oberyn gets to cocky while already having bet his opponent. My friend there while was celebrating oberyns boss moment and I swear he didn't see it coming. Oberyn was one of his faves too, so i actually had to give him a hug after 😂 he really just couldn't really talk for moments after (sry for my grammar and stuff. I am german ;)

When I talked to a few people about this character, many people were actually rather opposed to him. Some said that he just did not fit into the setting, others just disliked him for his non-monogamous lifestyle. I personally find it very interesting, especially in the context of the books. If I remember correctly, it was very strange for most people in King's Landing that he arrived with one of his lovers by his side and not with his wife. In Dorne however, this was much more normal and accepted. The difference in cultural context on a topic like monogamy is very interesting to me. Many authors just go to monogamy by default and openly breaking this rule is considered bad behaviour, even for non-human cultures like elves or dwarves. It was refreshing to see something like this.

Oberyn Martell... A Gentleman and a Pimp. Easily one of my favorites in the series. Also, plausibly one of the better people in the cast. Very much on the violent, "Take Vengeance," side of things, but it was all for what he saw as a righteous cause, and it was /such/ a breath of fresh air to have him show up at King's Landing.... Just wish his story hadn't been so much shorter than most, showing up and dying all in one season.

Oh this is all I’ll be making about it, sorry about that. My passion for the series mainly comes from the books, and it would be very difficult to edit videos based on those. Also the lack of views on this, especially with it having been out for quite a while now, shows that people just don’t seem to be interested in the topic when it comes to my channel so overall it’s just not something I’d do again. While oberyns death was tragic I'd say that his death is what triggered the end of house Martell as ellaria had been so consumed by rage and despair that she was willing to kill an innocent child just because she was a "Lannister" and just for petty spite in of itself. And she was perfectly willing to forgo Dorans patient calculated revenge for simple destructive rage and willingly murdered essentially her brother in law and nephew just to gain some form of vengeance. But in the end her rage led her to suffering the same fate that Cersei had experienced in losing a child and possibly even more gruesome as her death was much slower and painful. Ellaria was a decent person at the start but it was her own rage that basically made her no better than many of the other ruthless killers that littered Westeros.

Love the review but I am really sad in this video his brother Doran was never mentioned. He and Doran worked together to try to bring down the Lannisters. Here is a section from the book that always makes me think of how Dorne should have been in the show... Prince Doran talking about Oberyn to the Sand Snakes and his daughter. ""I am not blind, nor deaf. I know that you all believe me weak, frightened, feeble. Your father knew me better. Oberyn was ever the viper. Deadly, dangerous, unpredictable. No man dared tread on him. I was the grass. Pleasant, complaisant, sweet-smelling, swaying with every breeze. Who fears to walk upon the grass? But it is the grass that hides the viper from his enemies and shelters him until he strikes. Your father and I worked more closely than you know...but now he is gone. The question is, can I trust his daughters to serve me in his place?” As much as I love hearing your tribute I just find it hard to pay a proper tribute to Oberyn without mentioning his brother as well as daughters.

I get that, but that sort of thing just wouldn't have a place in this video, it'd make the entire thing unfocused. Doran really never played a role with regards to any of the points I make in this video, all of which concern Oberyn specifically and why his role is so important and emotional. Doran isn't properly introduced until Feast, after all of the significance I described has already been established and concluded.

Indulging in whatever pleasures you desire is not a trait to be looked at fondly. That’s just absolute hedonism and debauchery and it’s not something to aspire to. Giving in to your every desire doesn’t make you strong and free it makes you weak and without conviction.

Right but the line between overindulgence/debauchery and simple indulgence is only crossed when it becomes too much and starts being negative. And funnily enough, the story never portrays his indulgence to be a negative thing. Overindulging would be indulging in a manner that brings about repercussions due to excessive-ness. But that was never the case with Oberyn, no one was harmed significantly by anything he did in that regard as far as I can remember. He likes to have a lot of sex and he enjoys pleasure. So what? He’s not hurting anyone and that’s never shown to be a super negative trait of his personality - of course he has human flaws, but I mean nothing excessively debilitating related to his lifestyle. So this comment is a bit puzzling to me, especially since all I did was admire his overall honest approach in contrast to the rest of the setting. I suppose that maybe you have some sort of ideological spat with the way Martin portrays Oberyn? I dunno. Either way thanks for watching.

Oberyn is only likable in the show. In the books, he's deeply self-interested in a feudal sense, doing what is best for his family in all situations. He purposefully acts up in order to hide the machinations of his brother, all to get revenge on the entirety of the Lannister House. Like many characters in the show, the writers rewrote the part to accommodate the actor.

Well unfortunately it’s not worth the risk. These videos take hours and hours to make and I’m not going to do that for something that people don’t seem to have interest in. Everyone needs to prioritize their time.
