I feel like I’m with Jonathan here. If you’re a beginner at video, I don’t think jumping right into log is the best idea because it’s just another obstacle in your workflow that you need to now overcome with little benefit if you don’t understand how colours work. Instead of worrying about what ISO, white balance or exposure to use, you could just start recording and focus on light, composition and storytelling, which arguably mean a lot more than the exact colour of the footage. Then once you’ve mastered that, or you start to feel limited by the iPhone, you may as well start looking into buying a proper camera so you can start playing with focal length, aperture, shutter angle, etc. Altogether, this arguably makes a much bigger contribution to a “cinematic” look than shooting in log. Only once you finally understand all these basics should you look into log recording.

you can shoot Apple Log with H.265 codec with Blackmagic Camera App, you get apple log's color and small sized file, that's called perfect
@bigking1113 ай бұрын
I tried but when you shoot log with h265 codec the image becomes muddy which is more of a disadvantage than an advantage. Also Prores LOG is disadvantageous again when you shoot at night compared to normal profile. I think Apple LOG has more disadvantages than advantages in general. The file size is very large, you have to shoot with a very flat image without seeing the final color using LUT, you have to use external storage if you are going to shoot over 4K30FPs, etc etc... Also blackmagic app is not working properly with iPhone 16 pro right now. You have to shoot by turning off digital image stabilizer.

For some reason, every video clip recorded on the Blackmagic Camera App results in this weird “jumping” issue, where the video moves upwards or downwards, cropping the other side. Very weird issue to even explain in short, but it’s a thing happening on the latest stable update to the app, and on the stable 18.0.1 iOS firmware (not beta). Using the iPhone 16 Pro, 512 GB 🤷🏽♂️ the only alternative is to use the Final Cut Pro Camera app, but it’s nowhere near to the robustness of the Blackmagic Camera App.

I haven't touched an iphone in a REALLY long time - but iphones have really nice decode acceleration AND really nice shaders acceleration hardware so don't they have a stock 3d LUT that you can just APPLY to your log content for live rendering and exporting to say social media or tiktok or whatever? passing pixels through a 3d lut via hw accelerated shaders SHOULD allow all this to work in real time. (even re-time preview while capturing) which should really work like dynamic iso ranges. this is the stuff that apple (and google) SHOULD be looking at to put film maker tools like log (which when interpreted dynamically SHOULD enable more or less dynamic dynamic range (OR give you the ability to lock the lut interpretation so you don't get brightening/darkening artifacts if you're moving the camera through different lighting levels.) there should be a lot that can happen automatically in this regard to make cameras look way better in the hands of amateurs.

Color grading is far beyond my capabilities, but it looks very good. But the frame-rate though... eeeshhh.. When choosing 24fps, there is absolutely no room for panning. The picture looks so great, but as soon as the camera moves, it just looks awful, like cartoonish movements. I personally use 60fps, and the 120fps that is available now is awesome. I do however still use 60fps, and only 120fps, when needing to slow the video down for really dramatic effects.

Heya, could you quickly test transferring som big video files from the pro 15 and/or 16 directly to a pc and/or mac using a proper high speed 10 gigabit cable and check if you are getting insanely slow transfer speeds? I did a video here on my channel about it, and several have reported back the same problem: Transfering from a pro or pro max using a legit 10gigabit cable to an ssd, and from the ssd to a pc or mac we get close to full speed file transfers, around 7-8megabytes pr second. BUT! If you connect the phone directly to a pc or mac, using the same high speed cable and to a proper high speed usb port capable of 10 gigabits per second (approx 1 gigabyte or second) the transfer speeds slows down to around 250 to 200 megabytes or second … which for those of us who use iphone and pc and need to transfer gigs of apple log footage from blackmagic camera app to the pic for editing is waaaaay to slow. Just curious if you get the same results using a proper high speed 10 gigabit cable as we are :)
