So, when Goldeneye came out, I was watching it with my 3 year old son. He saw Bond's watch and said, 'Daddy you should get one of those, it's much better than yours' 25 years later I bought it (well, the newest iteration). My first luxury watch. It's a great watch!

Great vid Andrei, I’ve got two of the Seamaster 2531, one made pre luminosa with gorgeous patina in the dial (which is for sell btw) and one made in 06, I’m telling you, these Seamaster from 93-06 were the best diver in the market by far, the scalloped bezel offers elegance that a coin bezel will never be able to do, the intertwined lugs and the curves from the crown to the lugs are just a delikatessen! Thanks for another great vid !

I have the 2220.80 which came after the 2531. For me it is the sweet spot of the SMPs. It has all the things which make the 2531 so nice but stepped up a bit with the co-axial movement 2500, a more refined dial with applied markers and logo instead of printed ones, slightly longer hands and this little extra dash of color by the red Seamaster writing. It has a good weight, a comfortable and smooth bracelet and it is not too thick. Maybe a bold claim but in terms of elegance it is second only to the Blancpain Fifthy Fathoms, at least in my opinion. Its successor without the wave pattern didn't catch me at all. That plain dial made me miss something and I found the date window distracting. I also had a look at the current version. It is nice overall and looks really modern but the laser engraved wave pattern shows up too obviously and the helium escape valve in my opinion is too prominent. I consider it also too thick to be worn properly with a suit. What I like about it is the position and the color of the date window. For quite some time I thought about getting the green SMP but then realized I already have two really great divers: the SMP 2220.80 and the 1st gen. Planet Ocean Chronograph with orange bezel.

Seamasters really aren't investment watches. Even the Brosman models won't give you much of a return, and because aluminum bezel ages much worse than ceramic, you will have to baby it if retaining value is your goal. I say just wear it for enjoyment, damn the resale price.

I recently bought the classic Bond watch because I had the money and I was sold on it ever since I was a kid. I think Pierce and those movies are the best "modern" aka not sean or roger 007 movies. Even though the latest Omega may be better on the speclist and looks fantastic, the whole Bond aspect of the watch falls short as I neither like Daniel Craig nor the modern interpretation of Bond and thats where it falls flat for me. Buying a Bond watch and not liking the Bond or the movjes associated just seems counter intuitive for me personally. Anyone who doesnt have that as a requirement will be more than happy with the watch.

Here’s my thoughts. Only important to me, I’m sure. Ian Fleming wrote the stories. I believe he specifies a Rolex Explorer. That should probably be THE Bond watch. Whatever happened behind-the-scenes that popularized the Submariner should probably be discounted in some way. Omega as a Bond watch feels like pure product placement. Between that, the ugly handset, the hideous escape valve, and the odd shaped bezel, the Seamaster is a watch that holds no appeal for me. That said, the craftsmanship is superb. But I’ll take a Speedy over a Seamaster any day.

Ian Fleming never specified the Rolex to be the Explorer. It was just assumed it was an Explorer as that was the model Fleming wore, which makes sense.
