I waited 4 1/2 years for the KOT, which yes, it's great. I also bought the Protein and it's pretty much close. The one, huge difference for me is the pick attack dynamics you get with the KOT. Can't get that with the protein. What I like to do is use the boost side (everything at 2 o'clock) of the KOT with the ODR-1. (ODR-1 into Boost Side of KOT)

Old video but I got one of these recently and was impressed. I put it through my solid state amp to hear how it clips (you can do that if your SS amp sucks enough). It only clips at very specific voltages. That makes it super touch sensitive. You have have to dig in to make it clip. Just like a real amp. No wonder its been so popular. Its really a superior design and I hope the beginning of a new philosophy.. Edit: My only criticism is that the "presence" trimmers need to be on pots. I put mine of pots. Its a necessary adjustment between say single coils and humbuckers.

Hi Justin, thanks for the demo. Question. I have a KOT and Blackface Deluxe Reverb. My Deluxe Reverb volume sweet spot is about 4.5. If I turn my KOT up to 2 or higher, man that gets loud. I lower my guitar volume, but that sucks treble. For gigging in a small to medium venue, I usually turn my amp down to 3 or so which loses some of that lovely tone. Just wondering how you overcome the volume problem. Lower the volume on the amp? Guitar? Attenuator? Use a screen in front of the amp? Thanks man.
@mattgilbert7347
@mattgilbert7347 3 ай бұрын
Treble bleed circuit for your guitar and some sort of preamp - I favour the preamp from a Boss CE-1. It makes a lower volume amp sound like it's running at optimal volume. The treble bleed allows you to turn the volume down on the guitar without losing that high-end

If you can't get the PastFX pedal, maybe an MXR FET Driver (set as a clean boost/1-1 line driver), an Xotic RC Booster or the clone by Mooer called "Pure Boost", or an MI Audio Boost 'n Buff V3, V4, or V5. All can solve the problem of how to make a quieter amp sound like it's running at a louder volume, at that "sweet spot".

Will Mike adjust the internal settings/trim pots to match the older KOT for me when I place my order? I don't want to risk damaging the pedal in any way, not after a five-year wait. Mine arrives some time later this year...

Hello Justin! Would you mind telling me, if it's not too complicated for you, what year was built your King of Tone pedal please? I recently saw a video of Kris Barocsi here on KZbin comparing 2 King of Tone pedals. One that was built in 2018 and another one built in 2022 or 2023, I can't remember exactly right now, with the same specs and I thought that the one built in 2018 (the older one of the 2) sounded better. More vocal and natural sounding to my ears. Also do you yoursef have several King of Tone pedals built different years? Because it kind of seems to me that I had seen another video on your channel about or featuring the King of Tone on which it kind of seems to me now, but I could totally remember this not correctly, I would need to check, that your Kind of Tone in that other video sounded better to me than in this video on which I am writing to you now. It could totally be only me not remembering correctly, or my poor hearing, or your settings, amp used, etc..., but I wanted to ask you. Thank you so much in advance and looking forward to your prompt reply! Have a great day! Mar

@@justinmeyersguitarist The year it was built is written inside of your pedal actually. Or maybe do you know the serial number of your pedal (it's usually written underneath it and on its box or can you remember approximately how long you've had it it? 2/3 years? 5/6 years? Longer? Thank you very much.

Sorry but I don’t find it very convincing when you say we should raise the volume at 12 o’clock and above in order not to hear the dry sound in the mix (if I got it right), as if this volume pot was some kind of blend knob (I don’t think it is)… Plus, to me, an OD pedal is supposed to give you a cranked tube amplifier sound while keeping it at rather low volume : if you set the pedal’s volume knob up high, you’re just boosting your signal and pushing your amp into distortion - I’m not sure I want to use my OD as a boost.
@11116nas
@11116nas 10 ай бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. But i think a lot of people do like bit of volume boost if the amp is on edge of breakup the pedal can push it a bit harder into more overdrive.
@Tacotac64
@Tacotac64 5 ай бұрын
@@jamesemerson4102 For sure he knows his stuff, don’t get me wrong… but since I won’t rehearse or even gig with an already cranked amp with a full tilt volume boost at my feet, I’m searching for a good light to medium overdriven sound that can make the job without making me more deaf than I already am…

I have 2021 75th anniversary fender 59 Bassman. I had my Amp guy, check it out , he swapped out some electrical components for better quality components and he voiced it for a proper Bassman sound Quality, the Amp sounds great, would you recommend that pedal to work with the Bassman. Or other type of pedal. I’m ready to make that purchase. I have 58 custom shop Les Paul

Holly Ri,verside, I think there are a lot of clones of the KoT outsidde, look at 68er pedals or Demon FX, both are similar built than a analogman KoT. That for me is truthless to go for other pedals than a builer who sales over the highprice and waiting list over 8 month. That is a bad deal isn't? But of course, everybody has his own cat in cradle...I don't need Analogman, its nothing better or worse than JHS, Wampler, Mad Professor, its all in the box. Chose your own way and learn from what you are missing.
