After 25 + years of fountain pens, I'm still discovering what really matters most. The right grip is nearly as essential as the nib, and all aspects vary from person to person. The appearance of FPs have changed dramatically since the late 1990s when my little Lady SHEaffer was the exception to the "dark cigar" type. Now Benu and my recent rainbow Lightning Monteverde, with black Omniflex nib (a nearly perfect writer) are so fun. We women have smaller hands and definitely appreciate our pens as a fashion statement. Just sayin' (I was President of our local pen club back in the day.) Write on! 🖊 PS -- look forward to your Hemingway findings.

Each time I make a proclamation about what I would never use, like a slippery metal grip, something comes along… Cough Egyptomania, and throws everything off! My 21 year old Daughter' s 2 favorite pens are a Waterman pen that actually looks like a fancy lipstick container.....and the second is a Pilot lady Elite from the 80's that has an 18 k Script nib.......Fashion First!!!!

With you and your followers interest in pens you might want to check out something called a Ruling Pen. They are an adjustable type of dip pen that can be used with any type of ink or fluid. I use them for watercolors and India inks. They make a fun experiment in adjustable dip pens. I have also found that dip pens can be used with watercolor paints to neat effects. They are dirt cheap as well.

@@HemingwayJones Yes they do. You can think of it as an adjustable nib gap. Also, most standard dip pens will accept smaller fountain pen nibs. I love putting a pilot Kakuno medium nib my Tachikawa nib holder for testing out inks. Saves all the time of having to clean a fountain pen and allows the feel and ease of a tipped nib. A dip in water and a wipe of a paper towel and you’re clean and ready to try another ink. Kaweco nibs pop right in holder as well. Try inks to your hearts content with a swish in water ease of cleaning.

Listened to this driving home, perfect length. Enjoyed it as always, I had a bold Lamy 2000 but it was too much ink for me. The pen helped me realise I like stubs and not bold and extras bold pens, I would like to try it in a fine, didn’t like the “sweet spot”, it was to different to write with vs my other pens and was changing the way I wrote. I loved everything else about the pen, the history, lasting design, fit and finish, the cap didn’t bother me, it was nice to have a push cap too as all my other pens are screw caps. It is ideal for a note taking pen / on the go pen.

I'm looking forward to your Ernest Hemingway pen video. By happenstance, I had the pleasure of spending a few hours in Bassano del Grappa this past April--a fascinating town in a lovely setting. Alas, I didn't have a chance to visit the Montegrappa factory and boutique, nor the Hemingway Museum of the Great War, which is just a few minutes' walk beyond the Montegrappa HQ. I just got a Magna Carta Mag 600 a couple weeks ago and I love it! It quickly became my favorite pen, and every day I just get the urge to pull it out and write with it! Really incredible! It does use up ink like nobody’s business though, that’s totally true

The Magna Carta flex nib is impressive! I enjoy watching you write with it. I found a very affordable flex nib from Fountain Pen Revolution. It is available on certain models and as a replacement for #5 and #6 nibs. I use it for birthday cards and Christmas cards. It isn't as easy to use as a standard nib but it is fun!

Loved this one (watched live but had to rewatch). The MC Mag600 🖋️ is a wonderful pen (I adore flex) but it is a bit large for me (my 146 is the limit). I thought your writing with it was superb! Since we can suggest topics, have you considered doing a comparison video of iron gall inks? I find their history and chemistry fascinating.

Great question! The Modern Mag600/650 are brilliant. The best I have ever used was a vintage Waterman 52, 52 1/2, or 5. Brilliant Ideal flex nibs. If I were buy one to try, I might go with the FPR since it is good and inexpensive. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps!

That’s what Magna Carta told me. It has the exact same nib. That makes sense because they wouldn’t create a special Nib for a limited run and especially when it took them years to do the last one. Thanks!

Nope, I asked Tom and he said it is the same, but that Magna Carta is always trying to improve theirs. So if you are considering between the two, the pens are different, but the nibs are the same. Personally, I would go with Goldspot's! It's so pretty!
