I’m just getting into Dolby Atmos mixing specifically with Cubase and I’ve come across your videos. Thx so much for this specific video and generally thx for all the Dolby Atmos content. I would specifically love to see you do a video on Altiverb 8 XL. I already have Altiverb 8 and it’s my favorite reverb so I’m considering upgrading to XL but I’m a little nervous because I can’t find any videos on it. You always present information so succinctly so it would be great to see you do a short video.

Thanks! Altiverb is a bit overpriced these days. I might to a video about reverbs, including Altiverb.

Thanks for the detail about Pan Linking at the end. Just for clarification: does this mean that each object for which you want to provide reverb needs its own group track and reverb instance? Seems intuitively necessary but maybe the Cubase routing is smart enough to manage each signal path as a separate entity for the purposes of panning and reverb... ? Looks like a nice set of products. These features are proliferating well. And the prices seem to be moderating somewhat. More great info, Michael; thank you!

No, since this is an Ambisonics reverb you can just send all objects into the same reverb (bed) bus as long as they are panned correctly.

Thank you for the video, Michael! Can this workflow also be used in Logic Pro?

Yes, these plugins work with Logic.

I looked at the Audio Brewers products and all (vortEx, Doverb, Reverb) support the following output formats Stereo, Surround, Binaural, Atmos beds, or any speaker-array configuration through Ambisonics decoding. SO could you confirm that ab Decoder HOA is not needed to replace the VST AmbiDecoder (simply change output format of the ab plugin to Atmos Bed) or is there something I missed. Thanks for your videos !

You can do it that way. Good point. If you use an output format other than Ambisonics, make sure that you disable the channel panner in Cubase.

Nice Tutorial, Am just curious as to why Reverb Plugins like Reverence [Nuendo] are not Prefferd for Ambiosonics or Dolby Atmos....
@michaelgwagner Жыл бұрын
The built in reverbs in Nuendo have some surround sound capabilities, but they aren’t fully 3d, unfortunately. Depending on what you use them for this might or might not be an issue.

On my Cubase template, I have a quadro bus with REVerence reverb plugin, with a (SR) room selected, routed to the Atmos Bed bus. A also use an 7.1 bus for another reverb plugin (Stratus). But nothing in atmos or ambisonic format in Steinberg stocks plugins, shame.

but does this work with the standalone dolby atmos renderer?
@michaelgwagner7 ай бұрын
You need to convert to channel based audio for the Renderer. As long as your DAW can do that, then yes.

Does this plugin work with Davinci Resolve?
@michaelgwagner Жыл бұрын
It’s an Ambisonics reverb and DaVinci Resolve does not know how to handle Ambisonics signals, so you unfortunately cannot use it directly in DaVinci.

Hi there! We've been doing tests exhaustively and can confirm that all our sound processors (including vortEx) are compatible with DaVinci both in Stereo and Ambisonics mode, however, if you are going to work in Ambisonics you MUST have in mind: 1. The source audio has to be Mono/Stereo/1OA (DaVinci doesn't like Higher Order Ambisonics files :( ) 2. It has to be inserted in a Dolby Atmos 7.1.2 track 3. That's it! Use 'ab Decoder' on the last insert of your track to convert the audio back to 7.1.2 and merge it with your mix! :)

Step your game up on the audio engineering side of making videos for this marketing app, please. I want to hear if Vortex is worth installing, but I'm still not sure because your voice is so much louder than the audio. Seriously, talk less or bring the DAW audio up and heavily comp it with a sidechain to your speech track and a fast attack & slow release.
