Beware! When I tried melatonin, either 1mg or 3mg, and stopped, I had extreme difficulties falling asleep for a couple of weeks. I only took it for a few days here and there when I needed it. I pretty sure the body stops producing it's own when on it and it takes time for it to reset.

Ashwagandha is a brilliant adaptogen with clinical backing showing it directly lowers cortisol levels, therefore reducing stress. Ashwagandha is effective for promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety because it balances cortisol levels. However, if you're specifically thinking about longevity, Rhodiola Rosea is probably a better choice. Studies have shown it can extend the lives of fruit flies, yeast and worms. Supplementing with Rhodiola can increase the activity of SIRT1 and AMPK, important proteins linked to longevity. Other studies have also found Rhodiola can slow mTOR and can trigger autophagy.

This is a very nice summary. I already take all these supplements and a bunch more. I am 76 and have a 10-year-old daughter, so I must stick around. By the way, my good friend Barry Sears of Zone Diet fame would disagree with limiting omega-3. The risk of atrial fib is low, and the benefits of high-dose omega-3 are many. I have atrial fib with multiple failed ablations. Barry has taught me that high-dose omega-3 can prevent blood clots if you have atrial fib, so I don't need to take dangerous blood thinners. I've done this for decades with no ill effects. I take enough omega-3 to keep my AA/EPA ratio between 1 and 3.

Doctors understand the chemical interactions certainly better than nutritionists. But they tend to err on the side of caution and want to see a lot of peer reviewed evidence before coming around to the idea. The studies cited in the video may be interesting to them but assume that many patient families go in talking about new studies and so keep some respect for the amount of data they need to consider as well as the individual patient's issues and potential risks and benefits.

Hi Brad, an off-topic comment...... First , - very informative video! When you look at supplements you report intervention studies. When you say saturated fat causes e.g. cardiovascular disease, you report epidemiological studies. These studies are a good for deciding what to study in RCTs, but not specific recommendations - they are way too messy. May i suggest you look at intervention studies when making recommendations for the general population about dietary saturated fat.

It really depends on genetics, mutations and neurochemistry. For example Liposomal Apigenin is most profound supplement for Me that I ever take but if I take correct amount of activated B-complex with only 5mg of P-5-P(larger daily doses can cause neuropathy) and 400mg magnesium di-malate. Activated Riboflavin(R-5-P) in dosage of 3mg is also extremely important for methylation kick start. Also if I take only 3grams of creatine creapure without 200mg of R-lipoic acid I would get trouble sleeping because I would get too much SAMe and R-lipoic acid uses SAMe for detox through regenerating glutathione. Beside Liposomal Apigen second would be TTFD(Thiamax). My whole stack makes sense because Thiamax require to be taken with 200-400mg of magnesium and b-complex.

TMG and TMAO - What You Need to Know TMG (Trimethylglycine) can raise TMAO levels, which are linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. TMAO forms when TMG metabolizes into trimethylamine (TMA), then oxidizes in the liver. High TMAO is associated with atherosclerosis and heart issues. Key Considerations: Effects vary based on diet, gut microbiome, and genetics. High meat or choline intake increases TMAO risk. Advice: Use TMG cautiously, especially if you have heart risk factors. Monitor TMAO levels and focus on a balanced diet. Consult your doctor for personalized advice.

Dr Brad if you see this, I'm curious why your multivitamin contains both Copper and Zinc? My understanding is both these minerals will compete against each other for absorption and the fact that Zinc is there in comparatively much larger quantities, I feel like the tiny amount of Copper in your supplement won't get absorbed at all. What is the purpose of that much Copper? Am I wrong and there is still a reason and benefit to it? Edit: Thinking about it, Copper isn't the problem. It's the Zinc. So many supplements these days have Zinc just tossed in for no reason (Electrolyte powders, pre-workouts, even some BCAA powders, etc). These days it's so easy to get Zinc into your diet but much harder to get in Copper. Wouldn't your supplement be so much better if you kept the Copper but took out the Zinc? Most people concerned about their sleep will have a night time supplement that contains Zinc anyway.

Copper is a problem if you live in Australia bc we have a copper overload problem. The USA has the opposite problem. They are deficient. Hopefully any advice regarding supplements Dr Stanfield makes it clear, that he speaks generically only. All supplements should be tailored to the individual or using the words of that famous line,: "you just piss them down the toilet."

Do you take all the blueprint supplements? I like a lot of the stuff in blueprint. I use the cocoa powder and the olive oil and follow a lot of the recommendations. Not a fan of most of their pill supplements though. Big doses of some stuff. Includes things I wouldn’t want like vitamin E.

@@tyler-shaw I only use the cocoa powder, olive oil and the essential caps & soft gel. I thought the same about the vitamin E! I am not taking the full dose and just testing it out for now but am open to other alternatives.

I wish I could get a definitive answer to this: Can creatine potentially increase prostate size?
@RickinICT
@RickinICT 2 ай бұрын
Why would it? Sounds like more BS from that *one* study (never replicated) of rugby players that claimed it caused an increase in DHT. Which is also where the myth about it causing hair loss came from. I take about 8-10 grams a day, and I don't have any prostate issues. Still have my hair, too.

a study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that creatine supplementation may increase symptoms of BPH in men with existing prostate-related health issues. The study found that men with BPH who took creatine experienced a greater increase in prostate size and symptoms than those who did not take creatine.

@@RickinICT It doesn't impact you negatively, that's great, but irrelevant. That's like saying my dad smoked a pack a day and never got lung cancer, so smoking is bad for you is BS. I have BPH so even though I wish I could take it, it's not worth the risk as unlikely as it might be.

Not everybody can take TMG or glycine. Some people like me get to feel TOO hyper and anxious from those 2 supplements. DMG is very different. That I can take with only benefits...Glycine also made my dad feel bad, so it is a genetic thing.
