Hey as a 9 year veteran on Roblox and a scripter on the platform, I would say learn the basics to programming like functions, variables, arrays, dictionaries, and basic math. These components will allow you to read any documentation on Roblox developer forum explaining all of the APIs like data saving and you will be able to understand the code as well as build onto it.

Luckily, I only taught myself by watching youtube tutorials on very simple things like 'how to detect when a UI button has been clicked'. I started to understand the assignment after a while and knew some of the basics in roblox scripting. I kept teaching myself more things (sort of accidentally) and now I'm still progressing through my scripting journey. Things like the roblox devhub also really helped with my journey. I would definitely say to non-scripters that they need to learn the basics first like variables, functions etc.

My general problem with scripting is the fact that shortened commands or whatever you call it are hard to understand. I can only make a NPC walk to a part, dialogchoice, or actual dialog (using label text guis) and the rest confuse me as they just don't fit together to make a sentence. But i am slowly learning.

What i actually recommend is getting any long piece of code thats at least 1 thousand lines, and try and see what the code does. Try and copy some lines and put them into a diffrent script and see the outcome, and if it needs and variables added and stuff. Thats how i learned. I also (i dont recommend this) learned from hacking and cheating scripts.

Hey i was thinking about either purchasing the older edition or newer edition of the book, does anyone happen to know if either is outdated or not?

@iamLudius11 ай бұрын
Well, that's unfortunate... I think there might be a way for you to get it on mobile. Maybe do some research on that. Also thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it :]

i read the lua docs and then i could code tho i do not reccommended. I personally feel like lua is one of the easiest languages i've ever learned. if ur silly, learning luau/roblox sandbox stuff can be learned by copying code from the devforum and then evolving on it repeativley
@iamLudius11 ай бұрын
Well, if you have previous experience in coding then any route is much faster since technically the hardest thing will be learning the sintaxis of the new language. Anyways, thanks for your interesting comment :]

4-6 months to complete the dev kings tutorial, well that's interesting.. Years ago a young boy wanted to learn to script until he found the lord and saviour, the dev king. A radiant light blinded him and he never came back the same.
