Throughout the game it hints at micahs desire for family; this campfire dialogue, him trying to reconnect with his brother, when arthur breaks him out "you and me...sons of dutch..makes us brothers" theres also a drunk conversation with javier where micah admits he finds the gangs innocence to be endearing and it gives him a warm feeling. Truly i think Arthur and John wouldve ended up like Micah had they not been found by Dutch and Hosea, like Micah their birth fathers were scumbag criminals and hinted at perhaps being abusive. Dutch and Hosea are criminals of course but atleast in the beginning they had a code they stood for something and took in two lost angry young boys taught them how to read and gave them a dream worth living for.

The line Micah speaks with disgust about his brother having settled, feels for me like jealousy. His brother was just as messed up as he was, did the same horrible things with their father. In a letter he wrote to Micah, he mentions that he would kill him without hesitation if Micah ever dared getting to close to his new family. His brother got a second chance, and Micah deeply knows he's too messed up to ever have a stable life just like his brother, so he rather openly mocks it as a weakness of masculinity.

Not gonna lie, I actually like Micah. For all of his flaws, he is very honest about who he is as a person (a survivor and an outlaw) while the rest of the gang tells themselves they are something else. Something more noble. Add the fact that it’s very obvious that he is the creation of a long, long line of abuse and I don’t think he ever had any chance. This doesn’t in any way, shape or form excuse what he does but it does help explain a little about how he came to be and why he does what he does.

Micah is many many terrible things but delusional he is not. Unlike Dutch or John or anyone else, he doesn’t deceive himself into thinking that the outlaw life is one of honour where you can be a good person and a mass murderer simultaneously I remember one camp interaction of him where Hosea begins to reprimand Micah for the blackwater incident and how people he cared about died because of Micah’s carelessness and while I agree to some extent that Micah is responsible for things going so wrong I think Micah rightfully also argues that losing people is just simply an “occupational hazard” as he puts it since yeah, outlaws aren’t exactly known for having the longest of lifespans realistically and Hosea is just kinda wining into his ear about the consequences of being a wanted criminal

I kinda wish Micah was a more tragic villain. I mean. Yeah he has some tragic elements like this story, being a product of his environment but i wish there was more character interaction overall in this game, if this game took a mass effect or baldurs gate approach where your actions help define you and change those around you, it wouldve been satisfying to see a different side of the story. Either way the base game story is excellent and micah being the primary antagonist if very fitting it does feel good putting him down.

I actually liked Micah before chapter 6. Sure he wasn't very nice person but he is outlaw, not member of gentlemen club. His skills with guns are impressive and in some missions he was actually pretty nice. Unlike Arthur he puts survival over anything else so this is why he became rat. If it wasn't for that he could be pretty powerful ally.
