PSA: I said revolutionary war when I meant civil war. No elaborate explanation just a straight up whoopsie there. Thank you guys so much for 400 Subs! The support on this channel has been absolutely crazy and I love hearing about all your lives and how these videos affected you. By the time my next video comes out I'm going to have an email to contact me for business stuff and maybe something like a ko-fi where people can do a small subscription for behind the scenes stuff (maybe like soundtracks and access to early versions of the video/live premiers and discussion sessions). Drop your stories about your life, fatherhood, and whatever this video made you feel here!

Dutch taking Arthur as a given is known, and there is dialogue in the game if you stretch out the ride in Country Pursuits. A hated mission, but the dialogue reveals a lot about Dutch, what he thinks, and the stress he is feeling even as early as Chapter 4 before the bank job. I firmly believe that Dutch changed. I think of it like the honor system. Dutch before Blackwater was high honor; killing that girl, Anglo, Gloria, and leaving Arthur and John were all things that caused him to lose himself and his honor. If Dutch was always the same con man, then I think it cheapens the story; it means that he never truly cared for Arthur and John. He lived every day lying to his best friend, Hoesa, to his former lover, Miss Grimshaw, and all the other people within the camp. Instead, these feelings were genuine; you can see it when Hoesa, Arthur, and Dutch go fishing, with Dutch telling Arthur that he's more than a son to him and how Arthur complains that no one else would have been forgiven as easily as John had been. It wasn't favoritism when Dutch forgave John for leaving, but a father welcoming back his rebellious teenager. All these moments is why it hurts so much more to see Dutch become the man he is at the end of the story, like Sadie says, "The man who wrapped that cloak around me isn't the same man at Beaver Hollow."

@@DawnFeather960 I see it the same way. I think a lot of what they wanted to say with Dutch in RDR2 is that the death of a dream can do terrible things to a person. I do stick by the fact that what he already had was basically his end goal though, and that what he was doing was far more about his pursuit of a principle than it ever was about an eventual escape for the gang. It’s an odd thing because he sees them as his family, but also as his army for his righteous cause “a king surrounded by his knights,” as uncle put it.

I saw the original too, and I gotta say I don't know if I love what you cut out, I feel like a lot of that section was really relatable, I thought you might at least move it to later in the video or something rather than cut out the part about your childhood completely. Still an excellent video! Still think it's my favorite of yours so far even with the change. Be well!
@Hollowly
@Hollowly Ай бұрын
Tbh most of the reason I cut that out was I felt that it dragged on for too long. I was going to try and salvage some of it but I couldn’t condense it so I just changed it completely. I’m glad you still enjoyed it despite the changes!

Great video but small point at 7:44 , I think Dutch is on the same level as Arthur, John and Micah if not a little below just based on how he carries himself in battle & the way he sniped John's binoculars from such a distance with nothing but a pistol

Y'know I did think of that after I made this video (I haven't played the original RDR in years). There was also the part in RDR2 where he blasts Cornwall and tbh that was pretty impressive too. Although Cornwall might've just been caught off guard by the sheer audacity of that move lol. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video though!

I like the Djinn comparison for Dutch! especially from the outside looking in that's a very valid point. little scary in terms of the real world side of that. You kind of build on it with the false promises element but also bring his humanity into play. Really interesting perspective overall.
