Your positivity, creativity and sewing talent is why 99.9% are subscribed to your channel. But this is a good topic today; no one needs to comment on looks, shape, any physicality of others - unless measuring for garments. As Granny used to say "let's all mind our own business"!

Money, weight, sex, etc. seem to be talked about openly. Some topics should be kept to ourselves. We’re all getting older, so our bodies are changing. Let’s just sew beautiful clothes that fit well for where we are in life. That’s where Karina comes in with her sewing wand. Bam, she shows us how to look our best through sewing. We appreciate you so much and your hard work.

I am always amazed that a stranger thinks they have the right to comment on another persons appearance. I LOVE your videos, they are always so informative! Thank you for sharing your knowledge to help us that need your tips and your sew-alongs. This is a big part of why i do my best to compliment people only on the things they chose, and can control. "I love the way you did your hair, that dress looks great on you, that outfit is so stylish, i love your makeup'. weight and health and hell, having the money to eat healthy, it all can change so quickly and is really no ones business. you never know when you are complimenting an ED or criticizing a depressive episode. If they cant fix it in 10 seconds, don't say anything.

Light bulb! I have always really hated being told by someone that I’ve lost weight and look great. I just recognized that in the first moments of this video. It’s not just bc I am likely to regain and then there will be silence about weight and how I look-and that means something else. And, yes some of my temporary weight loss has been from sad things or medical issues that I don’t like to share with anyone. Karina, thank you for the eloquent words about these issues! And for creating a judgment-free space.

Oh, gosh. I have lost and gained at least 200 pounds in my life. What I don't always tell people is why this is. People around me make all kinds of assumptions (judgments) about this, whether they voice these or not. I have tons of esteem issues, including body stuff, and I'm too old to still feel like an adolescent about this. What I like and need is to be around women who don't talk much about how great people look when they're really talking about weight loss. You make beautiful garments that fit you beautifully! Thank you, Karina.

Thank you for everything you said. I grew up skinny and shorter than everyone, but then after having my third child, everything changed and at 73 I’m overweight and round-ish. The only reason to mention weight for sewing is to show how to make adjustments on patterns, as things fluctuate. To discuss the difference in when it works to adjust by taking in or letting out, and what the limits on those kinds of adjustments are and when it’s time to stop adjusting and just make a whole new size. That info might help someone if we all focus on the principles involved and not the numbers. As for how many videos, YOU decide based on time and how you are feeling. Praying for God to help you in every area.

Exactly. The only time I've ever commented on a friend's (or anyone's) weight was because she said she was shocked when she weighed herself and it was much lower than the last time she'd done it months earlier but she couldn't see the difference and she wasn't convinced it was accurate. I know she has issues with perceiving her body accurately so I told her I definitely noticed (because I did) but didn't want to comment on it either way because I felt like commenting on her weight loss would just add to the self image issues she already struggles with and potentially lead to unhealthy habits to achieve more weight loss and get that positive reinforcement. But I also wanted to offer my eyes as an outsider since she can't always rely on her own -and she asked, which is the most important thing.

She wouldn’t let me squat and said I could do any thing I wanted as long as I was on my back on her table. She also forced medicine on me that permanently hurt me and my baby. I have seizures and stuff now too. Anyway I fired her and found a lovely midwife. Used one with all 3 of my babes- all over 9#, all healthy. The lady had shoulder dystocia and turtles twice - midwives are AMAZING. They are truly amazing. Also- I don’t know why some folks say the things they do! Common sense isn’t common anymore! Sheesh.

Karina - What I've always loved about your content is that is not focused on a perfect body image. However I do learn how to style garments because of your honest critique about your choices. All your content is honest about that - such as what you prefer as a top length and why. You hit the nail on the head - we can tweak things to look this way or that way on our own body. I love that you provide that commentary - length, volume, prints, solids etc. We each can take away that knowledge and apply to our own bodies and our own garment choices. Thank you for this honest explanation about weight loss/gain - well done. Now let's get back to sewing. haha. You said it right - we all sew for our own image and thank you for all the inspiration. It has been HUGE! Happy New Year!

Way to go with your exercise routine. I myself enjoy doing the treadmill or the elliptical machine, but I don’t enjoy doing weights. I try to do weights sometimes but I’m not very good with it. But I think exercise is key to feeling good. I will be 80 in January. I can’t believe I will be 80. But I still do an hour on the treadmill or the elliptical machine every day. And I love sewing. I especially enjoy your channel. I like seeing the way you style the different things you sell. It is very inspiring. Thank you for doing this. As far as losing and gaining weight, in my 80 years, my weight has been up and down and up and down. I don’t even think about it. I also don’t worry about other people‘s weight is. How much a person weighs is not important in what the person is like.

Thank you for your candor discussing feelings regarding weight gain and loss and also the kind way you think about keeping the subject as part of life and of it being something that we as hopeful seamstress' have to deal with fitting our own bodies. I love the way you teach and the insights you give regarding fitting. When I run into a problem with garment sewing you are my first pick to find an answer. Thank you for your time and efforts to teach and I pray you have many more years making videos about the endless pleasures of sewing!!!

Karina, I have learnt so much from your channel. I accept I do not have a perfect figure and I have learnt to adjust my patterns to be a good fit. As a young girl I used to have hangups about my weight people can be so mean. I think things are so much better now with advertising using all shapes and sizes in their advertising material. Also, nurses are such important people especially midwives; I still remember the nurses who helped me with the delivery of my children. Keep up the good work! Thank you heaps! Your sewing videos are great. Look after yourself.

I appreciate the fact that you work hard to stay fit and healthy. I too enjoy exercise. I tell my friends it's about not wanting to have to change my patterns😊Thank you for everything!

It says a lot about people today and their respect (or lack of) for themselves and others. As usual, you have explained this respectfully. So sorry you have had to address this issue. Congratulations on your channel.

Karina I have always been taller than everyone while growing up. I won the prize at a birthday party party as I weighed more than the other kids. Talk about embarrassing as a 12 year old! That voice has been in my mind ever since and I’m now in my 60’s so yes people don’t know how this hurts. I’m thankful when you say how you adjust patterns you sew because I’m tall too and it helps me fit patterns. You’re such a good teacher and sew so beautifully. I’ve learned so much from you. Thank you for the joy you bring to us 😊

Thank you for that update. I see KZbinrs so often that I tell my adult kids I consider most to be "my imaginary friends. I was 5'8" since grade 6 and wore a size 10 shoe. I was taller than all the boys all through school. That's why I sewed most of my clothes while in high school. I hated school for always being the odd one out.
