You should check out the "Choose Your Own" mod. It lets you create custom galactic conquest campaigns!! The mod lets you have up to around 30 planets before things start glitching, but thats up from 12-14 in th vanilla campaign. The most I've done so far are 22 planets and it took me 3 days to finish. Basically, the mod generates campaigns from a list of 500 maps with a selection of 150 planets complete with skyboxes for space battles. The mod also has a few more features such as randomizing credits with space battles usually resulting in the most credits (which incentivizes space battles more than vanilla). It's a seriously underrated mod and a childhood dream come true for me.

You could have a commander role for the map turns, or even very simply implement some kind of vote system, like 'vote where this fleet goes this turn, majority wins'. Man there's so much modern tech and concepts could bring to Battlefront - but nope. Empire at War level depth on the strategic map, then a tactical battle more akin to Battlefront... one day, someone has to do it. Please...

I was disappointed in the space battles when I found out the capital ships were static objects with the same 5 rooms. That is why I like Angels Fall First which I can pilot the capital ships.

I'm an AFF supporter, but I just can't get over the jank. Even on a RTX 4090, the performance leaves so much to be desired, but you're right, that it's pretty much one of like only 5 or so games where you can pilot not just small fighters, but also giant capital ships and board them (aka Battlefront style) and fight within the interiors.

Angels Fall First is so cool. Shack didn't give it a real chance. It seems like they changed the way the small ships handled and it didn't feel as good though. I usually flew bombers, maybe they made them less agile at some point. I also had a problem where like every 30 seconds the graphics would stutter, for just a second but it was noticeable.

I like the idea that the Clones even if they didn't fully agree with what they were doing during the purge were just too professional to ever truly question orders, that their specialized breeding, years of training to always follow the chain of command, and entire lives spent under a hierarchy meant when one of the ultimate orders that exist on record for them comes down from the literal highest authority they were created to owe allegiance to that it wasn't even a question of if they should follow the order. Instead of some campy cartoonish mind-control chip.

And that's not a dig at any of it, it's just what they're officially categorized as well, in addition to 'animation.' And look, I actually MOSTLY agree with the two of you down here, but I still prefer what we ultimately got in the end, it felt the most right. And how is that professional, exactly? To amalgamate what Rex said to Dogma during the Umbara arc + what Cody also (whether intentionally or not, somewhat parroted/called-back-to with what Rex said back in TCW) stated to Crosshair in TBB episode 'The Solitary Clone': It's what they engineered them to think. But ultimately, they're not droids, they're not programmed. They have to learn to make their own decisions, and live with them too. And Fives even mentioned these things too, during that same Umbara arc as well. They should question certain orders, especially orders that immediately pit them against the very same people that saved their lives countless times throughout the war and vice versa. They were their friends, some of them being family even. And they helped a lot of other people in the process. To just mindlessly slaughter them shouldn't be something they don't question whatsoever. So it's brilliant that Papa Palpatine had a chip installed into every single one of them, so that his ultimate plan wasn't at risk at all. Just think about it. He's not going to take any chances during the fateful event that would wipe out 99.99% of all the Jedi across the galaxy and result in him being able to take complete control without having to worry about a strong and formidable resistance to his tyrannical rule from the Jedi. Plus, it's a beautiful, but tragic, irony when you've watched through TCW, and looking back bits of TBB, and then you watch that Order 66 arc in TCW and see that they were all in fact nothing more than just programmed battle droids in the end. Zero will power, zero thought processing, zero freedom. And I love how some clones were able to resist the chip for a few seconds, like Rex. Loved how he shook and stuttered and even cried in the end before fully succumbing to that evil device. Goes to show that many clones loved their Jedi more than others. Even further reason why the Inhibitor chip plot is so brilliant and masterfully done and isn't "campy and cartoonish" in the slightest. No, not one bit! Sidenote: Also, I really, REALLY like that the chips wear off over time, their efficacy and all. But by then it was too late and the deeds were all done and that's all that the Emperor needed from them. After that they were discarded, given nice retirement packages and decommissioned like the "useless fodder / useful slaves" they all were in the eyes of the Sith and newly-formed Empire. The clones didn't matter any more, now that the Grand Plan had officially been achieved and the galaxy was theirs for the "rightful" taking. Side, sidenote: And lastly, I do really love that it was made out to be this sort of conspiracy that even the Republic military had no idea about. That's exactly how a Sith Grand Plan SHOULD work and work it did indeed! It makes perfect sense that only Sidious, Dooku, Nala Se, Mas Amedda and a couple others knew of the true intentions behind the chip and no one else. Not even the heroic, amicable and valiant clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic. And of course the Jedi wouldn't know the true intentions behind the chip either, they're the #1 ENEMY of the Sith, after all!! The EU made it look like *everybody and their momma* knew about ALL the Orders, including 66. HELLLLLL naw! It was great to see it as this conspiracy throughout the Fives arc in S6 and in the series finale arc in S7. Ahsoka piecing together archival footage and hints from Rex, alongside her cute little droid companions was incredibly emotional to witness during such a rapidly evolving, dark and chaotic moment. Very true to Star Wars as a whole. You gotta have that cute stuff AND that serious stuff, my guy. That's what Star Wars is all about, at the end of the day. The Maker himself did in fact state that Star Wars is intended for "12 year olds" after all. But it has a global appeal to all ages and for good reason: Because it's so WELL DONE and RELATABLE dude!! So, yeah. I love that they kept it a secret for all those years and merely masked the chips as being a deterrent and 'inhibitor' (😉) for potentially bad and unruly behavior by the clones as well as an alleged attempt at tempering aggression from their original host template, Jango. And there being countless different orders, including 151 & 66, from the EU is also equally brilliant and that can still work and fit into the current, new-Canon explanation as yet again, according to said new-Canon, they were all secretive orders that only Palpatine and his personal staff and entourage really, truly knew about. Like an evil version of the *President's Book of Secrets!* All in all, I love BOTH versions we got, don't get me wrong, but for canon, the chips are what's just simply right for the story and overall evolution of the clones in the Star Wars saga. I'll still enjoy the non-inhibitor chip stories from the EU just as greatly! ;D

@@RoyalFusilier I like and agree with most of your comment, but that was part of the Inhibitor Chip conspiracy plot. Lucas supported that all the way 'till S6. Then Dave simply continued his ideas into S7 and gave us all the rightful conclusion to that beloved masterpiece once and for all. It wasn't Disney, it was all Dave Filoni. They allowed him to finish out TCW the way he wanted to. The way they both wanted to all those years ago. You can even tell + watch all the featurettes regarding the final episodes of TCW and how Filoni mentioned using old notes and rough sketches from before to fully and finally complete the Maker's vision. And he's the next best thing to George in that he was his literal Apprentice--a real quote you can look up from GL. He knows the story best 2nd to George and he had all his rough notes and sketches for what the culmination should be like and so that's what we got. They further expanded upon that "Good soldiers follow orders" line from that S6 Fives arc wonderfully into the series finale arc and moments in TBB, I see no deviation. And when that line was first uttered, it was because of a malfunction in the chip that caused Tup to prematurely forcefully-activate Order 66 in his mind. It was morally troublesome, but it was also completely against their will and that has been established since S6 and signed off by George himself at the time. S7 just continued those threads and ultimately concluded them, is all. I really, REALLY like that the chips wear off over time, their efficacy and all. Yep, as Shack said, I feel like the depth of Star Wars as a setting means it found a lot of success just flat-up ripping off games and putting them in its setting. KOTOR was "just" Star Wars in a DND style ruleset, Battlefront was "just" Battlefield with clones, even older still we have examples like Galactic Battlegrounds being very blatantly just Age of Empires But Star Wars. And it's glorious.

Man, I haven't played the old-school BF1/2 in ages, I should dig BF2 back out again. I remember playing for hours on end in the all-hero mode in Mos Eisley. I started out being hyper-aggressive and kept dying, so I switched to Obi-Wan and resolved to only ever defend. I got super good at the jedi combat as a result because it turns out all the bots and most players try to be hyper-aggressive too and once you're good at defense you can just block their obvious attack and then lay them out with a well-timed saber swing.

downloaded the remaster mod and associated sub-mods for it from moddb for the classic from 2005, it's so darn good and graphically accurate as a remaster, fantastic mod and a lot of fun. Reminds me of battlefront Xtreme, another incredibly well put together and created mod for the 2005 classic, nostalgic but so enjoyable.

i still got my PS2 and that game, pretty sure it still works, hopefully get it set up and play it again once renovated the new house and moved in. but yeah, modders are keeping old star wars games alive and fun because EA cant build a game anymore. its really disappointing to think back and know that the best days for gaming felt like between 2000 and 2010. i loved battlefield 1942, i loved this game, i love need for speed most wanted (not the new verison), and so many more. they bring out a new game called the same as an old game but the old game is far better, its just ridiculous that they cant give us what they want anymore. i seen some where that its the independent small game developers that are really keeping gaming alive the last 5 years with new ideas and fun games that dont have you signed up for a subscription. cool mod, maybe do a play through or something, galactic conquest when the mod is released so we know too? lol

I have had problems with the Polis Massa map with this mod, specifically in the GCW era there is almost no sound whatsoever when playing. The only possible solution I can find is to uninstall part of the mod that includes the sound files.

After Gamespy ended, for awhile you had to use Gameranger. If you have BF2 on Steam you don't need to use Gameranger and if you have the box version I think you can link it into your Steam library and hopefully that would work for connecting online. I have the Steam version so I'm not sure.

There was once a time when community made addons were actually encouraged by the developers when their games supported it right from launch and they released official, as you put it, modding tools. This is what gives games their longevity because we can't expect the developers to patch it for eternity or just keep releasing infinite sequels.
