I work in commercial construction as an electrician and these things translate so well to the trades. If I need to throw a laser line but I’m 14ft in the air in the rafters these definitely come in handy. Between that and tablet mounts so I can look at blue prints wherever I might be working. I’ve been buying photo/cinematography gear for a while for my job.

I use the very popular Neewer arms ( grippy rubber bit started to slide of in 2 minutes but I still haven't lost it) and this type of thing is a life saver... I attached to one "crab clamp" two light weight things - small microphones, small lights, Zoom H1 recorder. Attached phone for top view it is super useful thing

Juris - thanks for watching! I have bought the Neewer ones before and had the same experience with the rubber grippies coming off after like 2-3 uses. I like the Neewer articulating arms a lot though, I use them regularly (you can even spy a 9" one in the video actually).

Probably not for the purposes of attaching cameras, but will be using this to hold a 5kg sim racing shifter (fanatec shifter) attached to a foldable sim rig chair (playseat challenge). Hopefully 3x of these clamps should hold it up while allowing me to apply my force to shift gears.

@DroiMedia2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike - are you asking what the next size up of clamps is? I'm not sure SmallRig makes a 'larger' version of this, but you can always go up in size with some of those Manfrotto / Impact clamps (I have several of those and they can hold entire lighting rigs they're so strong, just not as versatile IMO).
@mikeburke13482 жыл бұрын

Jaws are shy to actually fit perfectly on my bikes front,. I feel like drilling two holes and adding rings and strapping it down, Isee it in my mind (Lol and that would do the job, personally for me I do not ride fast but the bumps and road ca jiggle it loose due to the shortness of the clamps jaws where placed. on the tubes shown perfect but the front of my bike where the handle bar goes in or top is not round thank you appreciate the review and being real.

I saw they also have a tiny tiny magic arm that uses the same clamp, what's your take on that one?
@DroiMedia2 жыл бұрын
Have it, use a lot for smaller things (mounting a monitor, my little Rode mic, securing a totally barebones camera for a timelapse, etc.), but it certainly won't hold much weight. It's still the same build quality that you can expect from the other clamp and arm, just a micro version of it. Hope that helps!

I'm looking for a way to connect my Zoom H4n to a boom pole. Think this would clamp down on that?
@DroiMedia Жыл бұрын
Yeah! I would try and get a reducer adapter and just go into the 1/4 20 threaded hole on the H4n, OR, same thought but with a micro ball head if you want to be able to adjust it.

can it handle a Godox AD600 strobe, attached to a light or C-stand, thanks
@DroiMedia2 жыл бұрын
It could probably handle the weight of it rigged straight up and down, but I'd be concerned of the weight if it were rigged cantilevered out (which is the most likely position / scenario). So yes, BUT, I would be careful HOW you might rig it.

Hi Adam! Do you know if these clamps are big enough to tightly fit a Varipole or Autopole? Thanks!!
@DroiMedia3 жыл бұрын
Heya! I would THINK so, but I do not have either of those to test for you. What's the diameter of the varipole? These little clamps are pretty wide, would definitely clamp around speedrail so I would assume that's one of the wider things you might encounter on set. If you can hang tight I'll get a legit in use / measurement tomorrow and get back to you!
@DopamineOverload3 жыл бұрын
@@DroiMedia Thanks so much! Can't find diameter of pole anywhere! Not even on the B&H site, which always lists the specs. Says the shortest it can be, and the longest. But no diameter. Thanks again!
@DopamineOverload3 жыл бұрын
@@DroiMedia Ah, Manfrotto Autopole 2 says diameter of 1.8". But the Varipole, no info. Not even on their official site. I'm guessing it's the same! These clamps in your video, I can get them to fit a 1" pole (VESA arm pole mount), but not much more than that.

Nice! I have recommended this to a buddy who did a cross country (US) trip on a motorcycle and it worked out great for him. Entirely different scenario but I have left this for several weeks at a time in a construction zone to capture a timelapse and it was just as tight at the end as the day I set it up.

Hey Mate .. can you give us Idea 💡 about Double ball head Weight capacity?? (Approximately) .. & Did you ever try this Double head mount on bike / cycle ??
@DroiMedia3 жыл бұрын
Heya! I talk about the weight / capacity in the video around 1:25-1:30, but it's at least 7.5lbs, probably more. And I have tried this on a bike with a GoPro, worked well, but I used some of my DIY cable / bungee ties to secure it more (so it wouldn't wobble and unscrew itself, since I wasn't able to monitor it while the talent was riding the bike). Hope that answers your questions!

I'm having an issue with my SmallRig clamp at the moment. When I lock the ball head, the tilt movement is locked but it can swivel around in a panning motion when my Panasonic G7 is mounted (the G7 is a pretty light camera.) With no camera attached, both the tilt and pan can be locked together. I was going to use it today to clamp my G7 to a long pole but I had to abandon that because of the swiveling issue. Have you experienced this issue yourself? I don't recall this happening when I first used it over a year ago.

Never had any issues with mine, I have a similar Neewer one from Amazon that can loosen a little. Sorry you're having issues, did you reach out to their customer service?

@DroiMedia3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! BUT, depends on the DSLR - I regularly use for overheads with both of my Sony cameras (a6300 + A7sii) - a larger camera w/ a large lens MIGHT be pushing the weight limit, but try it out and see!

Smallrig has two of these clamps - model 2164 & 1138. Which one is this and how do they differ?
@DroiMedia3 жыл бұрын
Hey Aaron, great question and sorry for not clarifying (I might have mentioned it in the video but it's early and the coffee hasn't kickstarted my brain yet). SO, the one I have is the 1138, it's larger and a little heavier duty than the other. The 2164 is a LITTLE bitty arm - I believe the clamp is the same size though. I accidentally bought that one a few years back, and I actually use the smaller articulating arm for camera rig stuff, but it's not great for holding anything heavier than a small mic or something. TLDR; 1138
@AaronMarasigan3 жыл бұрын
@@DroiMedia great thank you so much for this! but would you say that both crab clamps are of the same quality? (I only really care abt the clamp and not the arm haha!) theres also this UURig R060 clamp im considering but its twice the price of 2164 and it doesnt include the arm. Cheers

Happy to help, both the clamps are the same from what I can tell, and they are beasts, anything from SmallRig will be solid quality. I have an identical Neewer clamp from Amazon and it's pretty solid too, and might be a couple bucks cheaper.
