If you keep finding yourself stuck in that loop of stress and avoiding the things you know you need to do, WATCH THIS.
I give you my tools for dealing with procrastination… I know they’ll work for you too.
If you struggle with procrastination, you're not alone. Research from a PhD at the University of Calgary found that 80-95% of college students are procrastinators.
There's also nothing wrong with you. You don't lack willpower, drive, and focus. It also has nothing to do with your work and your ability to get it done.
If you beat yourself up for procrastinating, that ends now. And here's why:
You're looking at procrastination wrong. Rather than a trait or sign of motivation, it's simply a habit.
A habit that comes about in response to life stress.
In this video, learn the only way you can break the habit of procrastination-for good. This simple 4-step strategy will help you stop procrastinating and in the process make you happier and less stressed.

I work on pomodoro periods of 25 minutes. Sometimes I find it very hard to start, so I split the first pomodoro in 10min work, 5min rest, 15min work. After that it's a lot easier to keep going with the 25min intervals. The idea of just getting started even for a short period really helps.

Very good you have understood the problem. Now go out and do an activity that makes very good use of your brain. Learn a language, read a hard science book, pick up a new sport or start making videos....whatever u wanna do just start taking action(at the beginning take it slow) towards it. Soon u will break out of this habit. You may not see quick progress but just stick with it. Show up again and again and again...that's true progress towards your goals.

Procrastination is a habit. It's kind of a self defense against stress. Be aware of your behavior (the procrastination) and Acknowledge the stress. Get yourself to start. Think that you will deal with the problem for just five minutes. After that 80 % of you will continue. Thanks Mel Robbins!

@@bongobliss5795 Get yourself to start again with the 5-second rule for another 5 minutes. Repeat the cycle till you can go longer than 5 minutes. If you find you can't go longer than 5 minutes ever, then maybe you need to reevaluate and decide if you really want the goal you have set for yourself and if that action you cannot stay on for longer than 5 minutes is a necessary step for achieving that goal. You also need to be sure you actually have the skills to execute on that task. If your goal is the problem, change it. If you find that step is not necessary for your goal, eliminate it. If you don't have the skill and you are not enthusiastic about learning it, get assistance from someone who does while you focus on the things you have the ability to execute on.

When I'm anxious and stressed it seems more difficult to carry out the simplest activity. Sometimes I get addicted to scrolling down my youtube feed or any other social media (especially when I don't sleep well at night) and my attention span decreases substantially, so when it happens procrastinating is almost inevitable because my brain only wants little effort and lots of dopamine.

Crazy thing is, I already knew all that, from trial and error of past procrastinations. Start out by doing something for 5 minutes, and you'd simply keep on doing that. The hard part is to actually START that 5 minutes, but usually doing something small at first gives you the push to start it.

Just got diagnosed at 25, got called lazy my whole life. Turns out I had rampant adhd that went unnoticed because I have the inattentive (inward) projection and I’m an introvert. So I can focus really well in social settings like the classroom and library(because I don’t feel like everyone’s eyes are bearing down on me like I do at places like the grocery store) but I sit down to study at home and it quite literally takes me 2-3 hours to get into a “zone” where I don’t have to reread everything multiple times because I space out constantly and end up passively reading and don’t notice. Though there was a bit of laziness when I was a kid😂

Procrastination is one of the most useful skills I have. When I do things prematurely, I usually get punished for it. If I delay starting things, I'm rewarded. I'm a computer programmer. People don't know what they want, but they ask for things, anyway, and they often change their minds. By procrastinating, I avoid spending time working on things that people don't really want. Procrastination often opens up opportunities that I would not have had if I hadn't procrastinated. Procrastination makes my life better.

1. Procrastination is a mechanism stress relief 2. It is a habit 3. Every habit has trigger, pattern, reward 4. The only way to break a habit is to never deal with trigger, but break the pattern 5. Next time you procrastinate, remind yourself you are stressed, count down 5 4 3 2 1 and work just for 5 minutes. 6. If you work just for 5 minutes, for 80% of people they will continue working. 7. I find her advise to be beneficial and works for me but in the beginning it was still hard as I still get distracted by social media and KZbin. The challenge was putting in excruciating effort to resist those temptations to make the 5 second decision. So, I decided to get the Freedom app that blocks out those distractions at certain times where I start my tasks. Once the temptations were no longer options, it’s much easier to make your decision.

I think you mean you don’t have any external stress like financial issues. That’s fine, because you do have stress, and that is when you think about sitting down and actually doing your work. You think that it will not be a pleasant experience when you study or do whatever, so naturally, you choose to avoid it. That is a form of stress

Usually my laziness means I’m uninspired. But I just listened to a Michael Sealy hypnosis on procrastination the other day. Lasting effects so far. It didn’t make sense while I was listening that it would change anything, but there were some subconscious triggers that changed the course of the rest of the day and on into my next workday. So productive, I was wondering where I’ve been all my life. I am becoming the person I need to be for myself. ✨💖✨

Even though you aren't currently stressed, you're actually avoiding _anticipated_ stress. For example, I feel perfectly fine just lying here, and I don't feel any stress because I'm at ease. However, when I think about getting up and doing a chore that needs to be done,, I can tell that my chain of thinking points to the expected stress from having to get up and do something that I don't want to do. In other words, the thought of having to get up out of this comfortable bed to do something that I don't feel like doing, brings forth the idea of a type of strain. So to avoid that *anticipated* strain (i.e., "stress"), I feel compelled to stay where I am. You and I are not really lazy. And don't let anyone make you think you have some sort of sickness, either. It's just a habit of putting off the anticipated strain or stress that we _believe_ we're going to experience if we get up and do what we don't currently feel like doing. *Since we now have that figured out, it's time to rise above it by changing our beliefs, perceptions, and expectations, so that we can move on to greater heights!*

I will stop procrastinating, first thing tomorrow. In realty though I am bad at this. The longer I put off doing something, the bigger it seems to get. A 20 minute task, put off for weeks, begins to snowball into this huge task in my mind. Add in some current tasks that need done and it gets harder. Then I find when I do it, how damn simple, or less time consuming it ever was. Finally, I make real sure I congratulate myself. It really is an accomplishment in my mind.

I have found that just forcing yourself to start, and just work for 5 or 10 minutes, like she says, does absolute wonders. I'll be dreading a task (folding laundry), but if I just fold for 10 minutes, knowing I can quit in 10 minutes, I will usually just finish it. Or say I do quit after 10 minutes, I feel like I've accomplished something and am more likely to come back later and do another 10 minutes, until it's finished.

I was a really bad procrastinator because I loved the stress I work my best under pressure and I always got my work done some how. But I came up with a really simple plan that works every time; I would get a piece of paper(not connected to notebooks) I would write 5-10 tasks I wanted to do in a day. Once I completed a task I scribbled it out(very satisfying) once I got those tasks done I would throw the paper away. It is always satisfying to cross out finished work and once it is done throwing it away is that weight being lifted off your shoulders.constantly crossing off your tasks gives you that motivation to move on to the next and next until the paper is gone! If you ca only do 2 tasks in a day you write 2 tasks down and do them. All of these people over complicate it, the simpler the method the more likely you do it.
