@Someguy65714 жыл бұрын
By 1944 the sight of one of these was extremely rare and more often than not was ran by inexperienced crews. Almost all the experienced crews were already dead or missing from fighting on the eastern front. Also by 1944 most of the opposition facing Tiger 1 was easily capable of shooting right through its frontal armor. This tank was good in the early parts of the war simply due to it being able to out range its opposition. However if they got close to it all its advantages became weaknesses.

Say what you want about nazi but damn they knew how to engineer weapons tech and rockets
@joevignolor4u9496 жыл бұрын
Yes, they did some very sophisticated design and engineering. But what they gave up was simplicity and the ease of mass productions. The American Sherman M4 was an inferior tank to the German tanks. Sometimes it would take the loss of 4 Shermans to get close enough to kill one Tiger. But when Shermans are being mass produced at a 37 to 1 rate the Americans could afford those kinds of losses. In all over 50,000 Shermans were built during WWII. This was opposed to only 1.350 Tiger 1's. A stated, that's a ratio of over 37 to 1.
@flyop3126 жыл бұрын

interestingly , tiger 131 doesn't seem to have had any transmission problems , does it ? Plenty of engine problems, especially when it was being tested to destruction by the British, but no transmission problems,.. I wonder if this is because the transmission problems you refer to are specific to the Panther tank, which used a different gearbox ? ..a gearbox that was itself replaced on the model G ..? Anyways, Tiger 131 certainly seems to be running quite well, and surprisingly fast for such a big old tank...

The Maybach backfire. When see these I hear Erica in my mind. The rumbling engine, the clanking tracks, the cannon is the drum in the tune. A thousand 🐝 bees around her buzz. Imagine hearing 60 of these clanking over the next wooded hillock, it would get your attention to say the least. A live fire demo would be the topper. Crews were instructed not to fire main gun if muzzle brake inoperable as severe turret damage would result of excessive recoil. Imagine being on the receiving end of such a weapon. Germany had developed low hydrogen welding stick rods that made strong welds possible in their construction in the 30’s. America’s Liberty ships were known to break up in rough cold seas as the were welded with non low hydrogen stick rod. Not nearly as strong Would be cool to have a Gigant glider land and deploy some light armor and a Klienes Kettenkrad.

During the late '70's, I was a Cavalry Scout in an Armored Battalion in West Germany. During one of our exercises at the Grafenwoehr training area, I noticed a large horseshoe shaped remnant of rusted steel on one of the old firing ranges. I dismounted and inspected it more closely. To my amazement, I identified it as the turret of a Tiger I. The roof was gone, and the hull had been blasted repeatedly into scattered fragments. So sad that nearly all of these magnificent tanks were either scrapped or used as targets on firing ranges. At least this Tiger and a couple of others survived.
