This video was posted on the 77th anniversary of the Trinity Test, the first successful detonation of an atomic device.

I wasn't expecting something so introspective from a video comparing Oppenheimer to Jurassic Park, but this was genuinely great. Well done Sicky T.

Brilliant video dude! The fat man part made me crack up. But seriously this is a great breakdown of the connection to Oppenheimer.

@@Sicky_TIt’s a great thing to point out that the Park was co-destroyed by a fat man. In Watchmen, Jon Osterman’s watch fell off during an amusement park date and stepped on by a fat man, that caused him to have to fix his watch and it took until that atomically fateful day for him to finish...

“All watched over by algorithms of loving grace” is a great line

the line is a reference to a 1967 poem by Richard Brautigan called "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace"

Brilliant brilliant video Sicky. It's definitely placed there with these connotations in mind. And I love the depth this video goes in to! Also the 'baby boom' could be referring to the period post WW2 when there was a sudden spike in childbirths. A parallel between the technological leap by Oppenheimer and the spike in unauthorised 'breeding'. There's definitely a parallel, but also is Nedry having a cynical nerdy joke about the boom of the bomb, followed by the boom of the global human population. There's something unsettling about this, that perhaps he sees it as a form of black humour, or he has these strange obsessions

I think the superficial meaning of "baby boom" is indeed the birthrate, without a doubt (and apparently Oppenheimer had lectured on what he believed the cause of it was in the sixties, but I couldn't find any evidence of it) but I focused on the possible links with JP primarily

Did you read the original jurassic park novel by Michael Crichton? That introduction of the book goes into a deep history of genetic engineering and how it will impact every day lives

Like oppenheimer, who created the atomic bomb. Hammond has unleashed genetic power and changed the world because of it, and in the end, he is guilty of it. Great video 👍🏼

Great video Sicky T, but I do honestly think that Nedry was more a stand in for the Soviet 'spies' on the Manhattan project (a kind of Klaus Fuchs), who like the scientists at Jurassic Park (Oppenheimer stand-in) doesn't know what kind of power he deals with (so this narrative could explain why Dodgson was there, maybe a stand-in for the Russians to make the link clearer)

I instantly made the connection after reading the eye-opening American Prometheus. However, I would align Oppenheimer with John Hammond who assembled and pushed the team that created the doomsday science and technology. Nedry (and whomever he worked for) would be the US government who took that new capability and exposed it to the world.

Fantastic video; it's amazing how many connections can be found between the film's fictional scientific breakthrough of genetic engineering and the most world-changing cataclysm of the 20th century, and then the very turbulent society sea-change of the 21st century. You know a film is a timeless classic when people can watch it and find new meanings in it. I wonder if one could link the Pandora's Box analogy with the cold opening of Jurassic Park. The the Raptor cage is very cate-like in its design (to hide the raptor from the audience from dramatic effect), and contains a fearsome creature capable of great damage if released. As the gate is raised, framed by harsh spotlights, John Williams' score rises to a frightening crescendo and descends into chaos as the Raptor tries to break out and kills Jophery. You could argue that the opening of that cage/box was the inciting event for not just in the film's plot, but the franchise as a whole.

Jurassic Park scientists steal the genetic code to create dinosaurs; the dinosaurs destroy Jurassic Park. Denis steals from the scientists; Denis gets savagely killed by a Dilophosaurus. The lawyer wants to make money (capitalism) from Jurassic Park; he gets eaten by a T.Rex. The actor who plays the lawyer also looks like Oppenheimer.

This is def nice a video and I do have some thoughts to it. The part where u go over tribalism and 'canceling' struck me interest although I do be unclear what you were doing with that, like what happens if you were identifying with that belief? Or if there's any good within being a part of that. Don't get me wrong, open-minded ness has been on decline indeed and it's unfortunate, but what if it's reasonable to respond to certain beliefs that do be harmful like that? We can't be sure then l guess. Didn't really take away the other points since they were good still, just wanted to point out and bring attention like no other. Overall still a good video!
