I live in Indiana on the border of Ohio and everybody gets along with each other. Annual fireworks. The outdoor park including the water feature. The large duck pond. The picnic table areas. The outdoor swimming pool. Grocery shopping. My neighborhood. My apartment complex. We even have popular bars in the city. I once had a really nice black man ask me where a good bar was. I gave him the name and the directions he thanked me then went on his way. I would feel comfortable around him any day of the week.

I thought I had experienced racism back in high school until I realized my classmate had a devastating fear of germs!!! The boy would wipe everything that I had touched before using it & eventually I uttered " It's not contagious Matthew"referring to my blackness to which he replied" It's the germs & bacteria i worry about" needles to say I felt really bad as I had bad mouthed the poor guy & made him out to be this racist. The housing areas are very separated creating an outlier effect. If the episode had been filmed in the city where we live in Indiana on the border of Ohio it would have never aired. We live in a mixed area, in a mixed neighborhood, in a mixed apartment complex. Everybody is treated the same and everybody gets along with each other. We are a melting pot city among many, many, many others.

Sent 100 black men on full scholarship to Morehouse College. Spike Lee was on her show in the 90s and thanked her for giving money to him to finish the movie the way he wanted as the studio heads didn't give him the adequate budget to do Malcolm X justice. Built a school in Africa for black girls. And this is just a fraction of what she does for her own people. People are just never satisfied.

Before it went out of business, went X-mas shopping at Carson, Pirie Scott, spent a couple of hundred dollars. Next morning (opened around 10 am, store was basically empty of customers), before I had to be at work, went back to buy one more gift, and noticed I was being followed around the store, immediately turned around and walked out. Got home that evening, gathered up every item purchased the day before, including receipts, and, next day returned it ALL. Never went into that department store again.

As a white woman, I honestly did not know that this kind of racism was going on and the detrement it has caused. I have always believed that black people just used their complaints as racist unjustifiably. I admit to fearing black men, not women but, I have tried to treat all people with love. Love this episode ! Again, this when someone ( Corporate America) set down and talk to oprah about her shows ! She had to change it, they didn't want the awareness to celebrated over national television! There was a profound message conveyed that was more about general human behavior than just about racism! The young black man turned white casually walking into a building elevator as a white man and NOT being stopped by the security guy, yet when he came back as himself (A black man) the guard IMMEDIATELY stopped him! However, in BOTH INSTANCES the security man was the SAME MAN and he ALSO was black!!!!!!
