Dr. David Neiman all but transports himself back in time as he describes the experience of visiting the Oracle of Delphi. The priests of Delphi impressed visitors with a dramatic display: Pythia, a drugged and starved priestess would ululate while priests stood nearby and interpreted her cries.

Dr. David Neiman (1921-2004) was an internationally renowned scholar, speaker, and writer who inspired many people. His life's work concerned the intricate relations between Christianity, Islam, and Judaism throughout history and in modern times. Dr. Neiman made history come alive through his dramatic presentations and unique interpretations. In light of our current world situation, Dr. Neiman's work is not only extremely relevant but also remarkably prescient. More than anything, Dr. Neiman was a keen observer of the human condition. His words convey our shared history with clarity, humor, and humanity.
Dr. Neiman was the first Jewish scholar appointed to teach Religion at Boston College, one of America's leading Catholic Universities. He served as Professor in the Department of Theology for a quarter of a century. While there he was also invited to teach at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. After retiring from Boston College, Dr.Neiman moved to Los Angeles, where he taught at Loyola Marymount University, St. John' s Seminary in Camarillo and the University of Judaism in Bel Air.

I've heard it called "oracular ambiguity." It's in Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings," where concerning the King of the Ringwraiths, it's predicted that he will fall "not by the hand of man." It encourages rational analysis afterwards: what's the oracle saying, and what is he not saying?

What this speaker probably could not have known, since he died in 2004, is that the fumes which came from the split in the rock at Delphi have been determined to have been ethylene gas, which supposedly was the actual source of the hallucinatory state that the prophecies came from. And the whole ritual was precisely timed to coincide with the optimum levels of ethylene gas coming from the split in the rock, which came in cycles about 90 days.

Dr. Neiman. You spun me around when you said "pannag." I was expecting you to say qaneh-besem. I found pannag in only one location (Ez 27:17), and two verses later Zeke mentions "qaneh," a word that appears many times in the Tanakh, often paired with "-besem" or "-bosm," a "fragrant cane." This "kaneh-besem," I would think, is a much better candidate for kannabis (sativa) than pannag, though I am intrigued, as I know "pannaga" is possibly another eastern plant (Indian hemp?).

I think I've watched all videos by Dr. Neiman. I am glad I discovered them. Thank you very much for posting them! As I realized, theawesomebeliever created his pointless argument just to attract attention to his own "philosophical prophesy." Good luck to him. I hope he has found his followers..."birds of same feather flock together."

Not only is your use of fowl language uncalled for, but so is you comments in general. Dr. Neiman isn't lecturing about methods of meditation. The agricultural cultivation of cannabis and hemp in the ancient middle east (as well as other areas) is simply historical fact.

Do most of the (religious) Jews still regard Cyrus the Great as the (true) Messiah or it cannot be said of the general population at all? Thanks.

What a rude remark. I'm assuming you do not know from experience what the priests of Delphi or the priests of other ancient lands may have experienced that might compare to your "meditation and observation." So how can you be disgusted with the professor's implications when you yourself are speaking from ignorance?

You have yet to comment about the topic of this video. It's you using terms like pothead and addicted airheads, not Dr. Neiman. You're just trying to create an argument from a piece of video that can't debate you. Obviously you do say whatever you please. An easy observation. Your hatred and self righteousness is not a good combination.
