CORRECTION: Turns out Portal: Still Alive and Portal 2 are still available, when you own them the only way you can see that they're still available with prices you have to use the browser version of the Xbox digital store, they didn't even have the option to buy them as a gift so that tripped me up even more! I've put the corrections in the video timeline, from now on I'm double checking through a browser because it's simply too cryptic on the Xbox. I'm glad I'm wrong because that means they're still available rather than not! I wanted to talk about them anyway so whatever, my mistake 😅 Also, my cousin double checked being able to purchase any DLC for either of the Left 4 Dead games in any fashion across going into your 360, browser, or Series X, and no you cannot buy them at all, they are delisted as I articulated.

@@RetroMediaRoom Given that the "backwards compatibility" for 360 and Xbox games on the One and Series systems is just emulation, they're still available digitally. You just can't BUY them new from the storefront anymore. When you put your retail disc in, the only thing the One/Series uses is the license code to determine what digital game to download. I have the old Xbox Arcade disc pack, and putting it in the Xbone causes all the emulator-compatible games to start downloading.

Playing Half Life 2, Episodes 1&2 and Portal on Series X running at 4K60 thanks to the 360 cloud save game mod is unreal. There's now also a simple workaround for not relying on Quick Resume feature and losing 60fps by just making sure all chapters are unlocked for each game prior to adding the code to the cfg files. The overall image quality can also be improved too via the same mod. Looks and runs amazing!

The Xbox 360 version of TF2 is actually now the only way (unless there’s mods on PC) to play the OG version of it. The PS3 servers got shut down back in January of 2023. It never got updated on Xbox because Microsoft wanted to force Valve to charge for future content, which Valve refused.

the backwards compatibility feature is pretty much the reason why i keep my xbox and still use it to this day, my ps4 has some unique exclusive titles that i play on it, but the xbox just has a few unique titles like titanfall and mcc, i think its main selling point is the bc features with the enhancements.

The orange box is perhaps my favorite collection of all time, right next to my trilogy collection for Mass Effect. I have the 360, PS3, and PC versions of The orange box, and have played them on One and Series S. The PS3 one is.. weird. Worst of the bunch. But considering I have played through Half-life 2 on the original Xbox. Playing the PS3 port of the orange box was honestly very tame compared to the fps drops you'd see on the OG Xbox port. Sound effects in the menu's, picking up medkits, ammo, or HEV power have an oddly higher pitch. G-man also has a higher pitch voice aswell. And the performance can dip a bit at times. Though the one patch it did get, did fix some of the bugs and performance. Though the audio issues remain. But not the biggest deal in the world. To me at least. Played through all games on PS3. And not once did I really find it unplayable.

@@RetroMediaRoom Definitely looking forward to it! But do note, that I may have a bit of a bias. Like mentioned it can and will have it's framerate drop. especially in episode 2. But I've seen far worse on PS3. FEAR 2 on PS3 for instance has major issues locking to 30fps. however changing to 480p gives you a 40-60 range as its uncapped. But I still beat it. Growing up playing games like that on console / or my low end pc of the era, made me tough in fps drops. Also am new to the channel. This is very much so up my alley. Definitely dropping a sub. I particularly love games and hardware of the 360 / PS3 gen and much older.

Need some confirmation on this but I believe you can still buy the L4D2 DLC through the 360. Just load the disc or digital version and look up the content through the in-game store option and it should be there. I understand that the 360 Marketplace is no longer functional but because L4D2 is considered backward compatible, you should still be able to purchase the DLC. I was able to purchase the DLC through the 360 several months ago(before the store shutdown, mind you) while the Series X says its 'Not Available'. Something to try?

I mean, my SEGA CD games from 1992 still rip to 100% on my PC in their yearly tests, and half of these older games I picked up in the last two years have been delisted digitally for around a decade.

No problem. If you have any PC (laptop, Steam deck or similar), you can easily play all the games and get them thrown in every sale. Half Life 2 was even free for the anniversary including Ep 1+2.

Maybe because it's free they still allow purchase of the DLC but I'm surprised if it's still available since they delisted the whole game. The game's store seems to be a misnomer because it shows prices but when you try clicking it, nothing happens. The game of the year edition is also over twice the price of standard versions of the game so that also points to it being one of only options left.

Portal 2 hasn't been delisted. Not in my region, anyway... I already own Portal: Still Alive but haven't played it. And as far as I know, Portal 2 was the last free game with Gold, but I forgot to claim it. If I want to buy it now, I have to pay €19,99. I probably should before it really does get delisted... I don't know why you're having an issue, I literally inserted the disc, it initiated the download, and I captured all that gameplay on my Series X. I have no idea why it wouldn't work.

Don't even think about the PS3 versions. They have been disc only for a long time, and are in my opinion, very forgotten. The PS3 also only got the orange box and portal 2. Xbox got L4D 1 and 2. They put portal 1 and 2 on the switch for God's sake. Now how about they port them to the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. As well as their other previous console titles. They would all look and run so much better. Not to mention, if they put TF2, update it, and give it servers back... That would be one hell of an experience.

Left for dead on xbox is sad, because Microsoft wanted you to pay for dlc, while on steam it was free, that and you're missing out on alot on contract that the steam version has 😂

Wow I have lfd2 installed on one x not played Xbox in while I went to ps5 . It says it needs a 6 gb update and then it says there’s a problem so the game is useless now . Disgusting can’t believe they did that and I found out like this . Xbox is trash

there is no need to play Valve Games on consoles. The PC Steam versions are: - working like a charm, even on potato setup, - support controllers, - receive updates, - all DLCs are free, - online works. Also the support for Steam Workshop gives them second life. I have The Orange Box for X360 DVD, just out of curiosity running on XSX, but prefer playing it on PC. Peace.

@@Zerofightervi well, in my region, playing on potato setup PCs, that costs less than 100$, you can still play old Valve games on medium settings. Why bother with overpriced X360 DVDs? What i mean by potato setup? We live past 2024. PC from 2014 are fine enough and cheap enough to play these old games. Even so called 'gaming laptops' can handle these titles in stable 60 fps. Also you can hookup PC to your living room big TV and pair with Xbox Controller. Really no need to play delisted games on modern consoles.
