I remember being in my early 20s and listening to this song... I used to walk around, looking at architecture, and listening to the Orb and Autechre, and that in and of itself was a spiritual experience. Little did I know what the next 20 years of my life would have in store for me.
@oodles86 Жыл бұрын
What ended up being in store?
@vorpal22 Жыл бұрын
@@oodles86 Here's a list of some of the standout parts in mostly chronological order: * Three years of alcoholism due to trying to treat my anxiety. I was able to stop for five years, and now can drink in moderation. * Stopping one of my close friends from committing suicide. I was leaving his house and told him that I loved him, and he told me three days later that he had been planning on killing himself that night, and the only thing that stopped him was me telling him that I loved him that day. * Crohn's Disease with four years of constant, extreme illness and intense pain, during which I nearly successfully euthanized myself. Fortunately, I am doing reasonably well now. * Generalized Anxiety Disorder to the point of being housebound for four months, but ultimately mostly fixing it with cognitive behavioural therapy. * A three-month long existential crisis from nitrous oxide and dextromethorphan use that made me question my Christian upbringing, and was only solved when I read the first chapter of the Tao Te Ching. Now, I am an atheist / philosophical Taoist. * Finishing a PhD in math and then moving from Canada to Chile to take on my dream job. * Writing eight novels and winning a literary competition at my university for a novella I wrote. * Being diagnosed with adult ADHD. My life makes so much more sense in hindsight. * My best friend committing suicide, letting me know 10 minutes beforehand that he was going to do it. I was the last person he ever spoke to and I could possibly have stopped him, but I knew he had put a lot of thought into his decision and had suffered for a very long time. This ended up being the catalyst I needed to overcome suicidal ideation (without depression) from the age of 11. * A long-running prescription and research chemical opioid addiction from the Crohn's. It is under control and I only take kratom now. * A fascinating four years of heavy arylcyclohexylamine, phenethylamine, and tryptamine use. I spent three months taking 3-MeO-PCP every evening and doing mindfulness meditation, and it changed my perception on reality, myself, and the nature of consciousness. I do love my dissociatives, but I haven't used them in years now. * Legal issues in Chile due to ordering a research chemical that I didn't think was illegal based on having read Ley 20.000, the drug law, but I missed a small addendum. Nothing thankfully came of it except for six months of intense stress and $4500 in lawyer fees. * Almost dying five times from Crohn's complications requiring emergency surgery, and coming very close to overdosing on the nightmare drug, U-47700. * A polyamorous marriage of 19 years to someone who is very sweet, but ultimately is incredibly unreliable and who developed extreme alcoholism from being not allowed by law to work in Chile. Although he overcame it, I still have a sense of panic when I wake up from a noise during the night, because I have found him in all sorts of bad situations, such as being passed out inside the fridge. * Being stalked for five years by someone who was completely mentally unhinged that my husband made the mistake of befriending in Chile. * Having acute kidney injury, which landed me in the hospital for five days needing dialysis. * Recently finally attaining my lifelong dream of living in the tropics by moving from Chile to Hawaii. * I am in the process of separating now, mostly amicably, and my boyfriend of two years who I met when he messaged me on Facebook as we were in a community together is moving from the midwest to here to be with me in 26 days. I'd say that those are the most significant things. Life has been a pretty wild and crazy journey.

Heard this for the first time back in '91, peaking with a few friends some time between 1 am and 5 am. The sun hadn't risen yet. My jaw dropped, my brain exploded. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Rushed out to buy the album the next day. Fast forward to a couple of years ago and I got it signed by Alex Patterson and Thomas Fehlmann. That now slightly tattered and life-changing album is just a few feet from me as I write this. :)

This is so much more than music, it's life affirming, beautiful, sad, nostalgic, uplifting these guys did this mix from the heart and soul and it says lots about their own personalities, I was lucky enough to see this live when it first came out at the Brixton Academy and I had actually never heard the Orb, that night changed the rest of my life and I never tire of this whole album it's easily as good as a crafted 'played' album like Darkside of the Moon.
