And then they naturally have good skin so people think they need to replicate their routine to clear their skin. When in reality, some of the products they try have offensive ingredient lists.

I appreciate your taking the time to really *use* the products before rendering an opinion. I trust your reviews so much. I had such a struggle with my skin and your advice on the proper pH of cleansers and other products turned everything around. Had a dermatologist or aesthetician done that, it would jave saved me 20 years of frustration and tears and lots of money. My hearty thanks.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me Carol! I hear you. I was lucky at a very young age to get an unusually great derma when I had my skin problems. Many good habits were formed under his direction. Unfortunately, since him, I've seen a slew of drs that have further exacerbated my issues without every explaining properly cause. I'm happy to hear your skin continues to improve!

@AudreyNataliaKosmar
@AudreyNataliaKosmar 8 жыл бұрын
+Vanessa Thammarath i'm a bit confused because there is no strict age restriction and some say wait until at least late20s/early 30s. But some say the sooner the better and even teenagers can use retinol. Also i heard using retinoid is better if we want to avoid the side effects. Currently i am using rosehip oil to train my sensitive skin to be accustomed to trans retinoic acid. What about you? It's so hard to find anti aging skincare products advice for people in their early 20s here on the internet 😑

Thank you SO MUCH for spending the time to walk me through the steps to properly using these amazing products. No matter what brand I use, I want to use it properly so I don't waste my money and further damage the aging skin I currently have in fairly good condition. It's amazing to find someone who'll take the time to do this and I really appreciate your spending this time to go over all the do's and don'ts of the Ordinary. I'm pretty sure I can take the information for the beneficial ingredients and utilize the information for other brands. Exceptional review! Thank you so much!

I struggled with the Vit C suspension at the beginning the same way, you do, until I figured out how to apply it: first thing after cleansing (no toner after cleansing makes it sting horribly), very small amount on completely dry skin, gently massage to break the gritty texture, it takes some time and wait after the granules have completely dessole to apply the buffet on top , works great

I haven't experienced any pilling with Azelaic Acid, and I was so relieved! I also haven't noticed that excessive silicone feel, which is also awesome. I'm actually really happy with this product and it suits my dehydrated skin but thank you for heads up, I appreciate it. I'm turning 30 this summer and I have noticed signs of ageing so I'm working on minimizing them and prevention. The Ordinary appealed to me a lot, it aligns with my own skincare views and I've ordered a total of five products. That number may change within the following months :) I'm greatly enjoying the testing process, The Ordinary brought back my passion towards skincare and Renee, you are a joy to watch and listen to!

I have their azelaic acid, niacinamide + zinc, caffeine solution, matrixyl and the organic rosehip oil (the last two being on their way to me, still not delivered). So far, I've experienced significant pore shrinkage and my skin looks better than usual. I'm quite excited to properly test everything out! My skin type is combination dehydrated, I do get blemishes from products that are too rich and I have been using AHAs and BHAs in the past. I'd say that being consistent with makeup removal, double cleansing and plain nourishment has made the most difference for me. I'm generally a fan of rosehip oil so I'm pretty sure I'll love the one from The Ordinary. Face cream, eye cream and rosehip oil + some sort of acid is what I use and you can check out how my skin looks like on my IG: instagram.com/simply.selma/ I think I managed to keep it youthful despite working in 12h long night shifts for a decade. The task is to keep it up as it does get harder with every passing year lol

I'm so glad you mentioned that you use oils as well as a moisturizer on your face. Most people either swear by oils and use them exclusively, or they swear off oils all together and only use moisturizers. I have found that combining the 2 give me the best of both worlds and really give a full punch of hydration on my skin that is becoming drier with age.

Hi Renee! I absolutely love when you explain the chemistry behind the skincare. Hi Marta! Thank you so much for your kind words. I think you could totally pursue a career in pharmacy! One of the things I love about my profession is how diverse it is. There are so many things you can do, from nuclear pharmacy to ambulatory care to academia. I'm interested in independent pharmacy, specifically compounding, which is where I work now. The work load in pharmacy school is pretty intense, and you study things like anatomy, pharmaceutics and pharmacotherapy. I'm sure the experience differs depending on the university and the curriculum, but it definitely requires a lot of hard work. Fingers crossed it'll all pay off some day! I hope this was helpful, and I hope you find a career that you can be really happy with and be passionate about! Good luck!

Glycolic acid is an AHA acid, I think lactic acid too. And no, you don't need both. AHA and BHA are both exfoliators, but BHA penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin, so it would be wise to use it if you suffer from cystic acne. The best solution though, is the combination of the two. The ordinary has an AHA+BHA exfoliator!
@nurhanun9100
@nurhanun9100 6 жыл бұрын
Glycolic Acid is the most active and beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA) in skin care and is made from sugar canes.The Lactic acid is less irritating and more moisturizing than the Glycolic, and the Lactic can be used at a slightly higher concentration than the Glycolic, because it is not as irritating. Please note that Glycolic Acid should not be used on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. Im currently using these two AHA but only during pm routine. Ive been using the glyoclic acid toner from The Ordinary for every night but for lactic acid i use it alternately with vit c 23% from The Ordinary. My own experience as the beginner using the glycolic acid from The Ordinary, it’s a bit irritating but still bareable. I SWEAR to God the first time i tried the Vitamin C 23% Suspension from The Ordinary i had a superior tingling sensation and i couldn’t sleep!! it is so irritating. But im not using the glycolic acid + vit c in the single routine yet until few months my skin can tolerate with these direct acids and now my skin is so happy with glycolic acid toner + vit c 23% in the single routine. My experience towards Lactic Acid at first is i do not have any tingling sensation or what in fact my skin looks so moistttt when i wake up in the morning. But please for sensitive skin it’s not recommended to use the glycolic acid+ vit c 23% in the single routine because both has very low ph level and it might irritate your skin.

Hi Renee, great review. I have been trying a few of The Ordinary products as well. Ones I really like is one that everyone else seems to have issues with. The vitamin C suspension. I spray some Hylamide facial mist on first and then, while my skin is still damp, I smooth on a little bit of the vitamin C suspension. It goes on much easier, it disintegrates the vitamin C spheres and I feel like it soaks in nicely. That way you’re not actually grinding the spheres in to your skin, causing the burning and stinging sensation that many people have experienced.

I've been indecisive to buy & use The Ordinary products for almost a year now just because of the most common reason, that i don't want to cause damage to my already worrisome skin. I did some research but being a newbie, I was overwhelmed! But when i stumbled on your video -- i just got hooked up! I placed my first order of the The Ordinary products right after i finished watching the 2nd part of your review video. I have most of the skin issues you mentioned and this makes me excited & anxious at the same time on what will be the result for me. Fingers crossed!

Thank you for such amazing scientifically informative videos! As a woman of science the geek in me is overjoyed and its a real treat to not solely rely on a review based on texture or scent...! Out of all the products you have tried so far, what would you recommend as the best combination of The Ordinary products for an oily, hyper-pigmented and acne prone skin type? By the way your skin looks amazing ;-)

Thank you so much for this video as at 47 I am new to skin care other than lathering my face in vaselline lotion. I have up'd my game in using Cerave and Olay Moisturizers and just got a slew of Ordinary products (they were sold out of Retin A and Lactic Acid though). My biggest concern obviously is cost. I am afraid Ordinary too like ALL other skin care lines will eventually charge too much. I love their current prices and its a great way to get known but I dont believe it will last! P.s I trust only YOU with my skin care, you are the sole reason I have gotten interested in it. You deserve your own show! But glad you are Utubes little hidden gem!

Great review! I wish I watched this before I purchased the vitamin c. I've been pushing through the burning for a few weeks now and just started breaking out so I think I'm going to cut this out of my routine. I'm debating trying the drunk elephant one instead, but I'm hesitant to drop the cash. Do you have any suggestions for cheaper alternatives?

im in the same boat! i got a sample of the drunk elephant one and it might have been too strong (and sticky) for me. i got red bumps all over my cheeks that took a few days to go away. but maybe i need to use it more than once, or at a different point in my routine? i was using it after cleansing and toning.

Kathryn Yee I have done a lot of research on Cs. I have done the DE but just ordered one from the ordinary's sister brand Hylamide called booster C25. The ordinary has 3-4 options, all cheap. Serumtologie 22 is also raved about.

I've used the Serumtology and it's great, but I really want L absorbic Acid. Timeless Skincare sells a serum using L Absorbic Acid and I love it. Just have to be careful to put the top back on as soon as possible. It's much more pricey @ $24.95, but that's much less expensive than say, Drunk Elephant. I see Drunk Eleephant as a good C serum. Only 15% concentration and it has lots of extra emolients to make it feel good going on. It also comes in an air tight container, it also costs $85. So you have to weight out the pros and cons depending on what's most important to you. I'm Hy to try like heck to make The Ordinary 23% suspension work for me. The price is right and Hyaluronic Acid is so inexpensive, a great compound to use with the suspension of Vit C. Hope this makes sense!

Hi iloveromeo3! I've used Angie's code often, but I didn't know you could get free s/h? I always buy more than one thing at timeless and they let you use all the codes you have. Great company. I'm a bit tied to Serumtologie for now. Well probably one more shipment. A bottle was stolen from my mailbox and they replaced it for free and were so nice about it. So I feel like I have to pay for one more bottle and I'll cancel my subscription with them. They are a great company, so nice and professional, but my "politeness" only goes so far. I'll pay the $30 one more time and then either The Ordinary or Timeless for me. Thanks!

I'm soo interested in trying the ordinary, but I feel like I don't know what to buy, even though these reviews have helped a bit.. I feel like my skin is/looks dry, it doesn't feel tight or burns, so I'm guessing it's more of a surface dryness, and I also have uneven skintone and a few marks from old pimples, so in my mind I need hydration, something that works agains hyperpigmentation and an acid. From the first review I narrowed it down to matrixyl 10% and/or buffet and/or alpha arbutin 2%, but I don't know which one to choose, and when it comes to acids it's even more difficult! I've only used peeling pads with PHA and a peeling mask that I think uses enzymes, so I'm not very familiar with acids.. Could you please help me and give me some hints what I should choose? Are there certain products of the ones I've mentioned that don't go together or one or two that would tackle most of the issues I mentioned? Love the reviews by the way!

I actually really like the Vit C Suspension... Yes the product is suuuuper grainy and very off-putting, not cosmetically elegant in the slightest. I tried just patting it in at first but then switched to the smooth all over and then press in method. I wait a few minutes for it to sink in and then use moisturizer. It definitely does sting though, mine was more like an itchy sensation on my face! But I'm almost certain that it has helped the texture on my chin from my hormonal acne, as well as some pigmentation issues and any additional acne arising as well!
