For Seth Morrison, skiing is much more than a sport or job, it's a way of life.
It's not a privilege he was born with; it's a passion he discovered on his own.
Through hard work and dedication, Morrison has become one of the best skiers in the world.
The Ordinary Skier traces his journey from the middle class suburbs of Chicago to the Colorado Rockies and into the underground ski-bum subculture that would eventually become Freeskiing.
This is the story of how a collection of misfits turned an elite sport upside down, and how an ordinary kid chased his dream and became one of skiing's most iconic heroes.

It's amazing to see Seth grow the way he did, All it started from that 1993 Us Extreme skiing comp at crested butte when Seth got second place. Seth never knew me but in the 93 US extreme I was the youngest competitor and Seth was second youngest there. Me and Kent Kreitler the previous year winner decided on day 1 to huck big air off the only cliff at the top of Hawks Nest North face. BOTH me and Kent paid for our stupid decision to go big into ice and both of our bindings blew out on landing and knocked us both out of the comp sadly but I stuck around and skied and watched David Swanwick and Seth come up from unknowns to making huge names. Wow so many stars got their start from that competition. I sadly blew my knee two weeks before the 94 comp, and first South American extreme, and allmtn extreme at squaw. That was the most superb time to make a name in extreme skiing because it was up for grabs, there were no stars then but Plake and smidt and people were bored of them. Probably the top 20 from that 93 comp made a big name for themselves. Seth you are the Goat

It's cool you make clear what some of it has become, to do what you do and even in something that looks so free to be a part of, has somewhat become the same contest as so many other fields. Bigger, better, harder, faster, steeper, etc. It's cool to still watch and inspire me to get back out there again. Never think you have anymore to prove and just keep riding, because I think, like education, health care and freedom, so should be riding the mountain in order to properly connect with the planet that all of us are a part of. You're still living the dream.

Moved to the Rockies, season is coming up and I didn't want rentals. I bought skis and a pair of boots at a thrift store. The boots were Full Tilt and the name splashed across the velcro was Seth Morrison. They cost $25 and looked like the 80's wanted their color schemes back, but they felt amazing. I get my crap back to the house and start looking up what I had bought. So, here I am learning about the guy and I have to admit, it was a lot more entertaining than I thought it was going to be. I was expecting some gold cup downhill racer, instead it's someone that would rather die than live in nice boring safety with minimal purpose.

I grew up in CB when Seth was there, so this was kind of a cool throw back. I can recall the first time I actually encountered him on the mountain. I was at the top of Headwall eyeing up the smaller part of the top cliffs totally scared to go in. While I am standing there looking, Seth just comes out of no where and sends the largest part basically right over my head like it was nothing heh. Another time after the x-games were over, they left a jump up called the "hiney booter". It was a sweet powder day and I was riding up the lift over head and he comes flying down and throws the cleanest, largest misty flip I had ever seen in person. It's kind of weird to have in-person memories of someone that would never recall those events. I honestly always had the opinion that he seemed pretty arrogant (I guess somewhat understandable given his skill). Fast forward a couple of years... Steve Winter ended up being our neighbor towards the end of my time there and one of the last days in my parents house we had a garage sale and I recall Seth and Steve and a couple of other guys coming over. Having more of a chance to talk to them then, it really kind of changed my perspective on who they were as people having grown up kind of idolizing him. Very cool watch and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the share!

Whoa, major blast from the past. Amazing to look back at the moment time when it seemed like the freeski scene as a whole became "Chamified" as radical North American skiers came to Cham and realized that there was a whole level of radical above what they knew, and that people had been doing it for decades already. A great timepiece of skiing!

Great movie. Seth is definitely the blue one from Inside Out and I don’t mean that as an insult. The usual flicks gloss over the risks it takes to get to this level and only stoke up the success. So easy to get jealous of these guys ripping all that powder but theres gotta be pressures. I applaud showing a story of the other side of the glamour

Love the Vail clips. I was living in the Valley 96-99. It’s still home. I revisit every year. Many friends still local. More recently started venturing to other mountain ranges. Much heart and soul of skiing in Chamonix 💯. We are skiers. These days I manage a ski shop in the NE to continue giving back to what shapes who I am.

Nailed it. 🎯❄🏔🚠 The two most important aspects of snow sports culture are: (1) ordinary people pioneered skiing and snowboarding in the pursuit of pleasure and (2) ordinary people push the sport in new directions every season. Yes, the kid in the lift line - with the runny nose and the purple barney hat - might be the first to stick a quad, corked deluxe backflip with a reverse axial twist (e.g. s/he grabbed his ski tips for steeze / flare.) This is the sustaining source of "community progression" as a competitive sport, recreational experience, and entertainment. Very few sports have a grass roots engine that runs this deep. And we'd have it no other way --

Some of the Cham scenes with Kye are spooky, given what happened to his dad. I sort of froze when Nate mentioned climbing the "Cosmique Arrete" at 22:05. Trevor died in the Cosmique Couloir, which is directly below. I can't help but wonder if he was taking Kye to visit the spot. EDIT: Researched some more, and Kye came to Cham to ski the Cosmique (documented in "Edge of Never") at about the same time as that footage. I bet this is the same trip.

Nikolai, you guys killed it as usual!! Quick question, which bindings are you using with your quiver?? I went the "safer" route and chose shift, but now I feel like it might have been the wrong decision.. I use to swear by kingpins untill my ACL injury.. thinking of tecton for the ferox freebirds to keep the weight lower and maintaining the din for the toe..

Remember: she, the mother, chose the father. Women are the gatekeepers. So where is the blame for her poor judgement in choosing the wrong mate? More female responsibility avoidance… As a result, these poor children grew up w/o their biological father. My heart goes out to you Seth and your sibling.

Cześć, pozdrawiam cie . Ale powiedz mi jedno ,podjeżdża pod twoje drzwi samochód i pali gumę. Jeśli mówisz że ktoś ma żal za to. To pozwól chłopakom przyjechać pod twój dom . Firmę i niech upalają. I niech będzie że to są twoji klienci . I najgorsze jest to że zrozumiałbym że poniosło was . ALE zwykle przepraszam dużo by zmieniło. Więc ogólnie moja nieznacząca ocena to za ten film masz 2 oceny .1 zachowanie się jak polaczek bo mam kasę i wszystko mi wolno. I nigdy nie jestem winny.ocena 0. A druga 8 .pozdrawiam
