32mm f/10 is exactly the same as the lens used in Kodak Funsaver disposables, i wouldn't be surprised if this company was sourcing them from the same place. I've made my own from bodycaps and getting free used disposables from my local film lab, after watching a Mathieu Stern video on it, and it's a fun little thing to play around with, probably more so for video. I will say some will still hate the price, but if you had to buy all the tools and the disposable to make your own, it would be in the $30-40 range anyway, so this commercial offering is a fair price in my opinion.

That’s interesting insight on the disposable camera lenses! Yah, you would be hard pressed to make something of the same quality and finish, for that price.

You are 100% correct. "OREO STYLE KEKS LENS (REIMAGINED) Keks Lens is a lens recycled from a disposable camera and transformed into a body cap lens."
@sensenmann300025 күн бұрын
How would it be more than 30$ when a disposable camera is 10$ and the plastic piece from a 3D printer (most people know someone who has one) is cents in value 🤔
@markwiemels25 күн бұрын
@@sensenmann3000 because that’s not what you’re getting here. It’s two peace, injection moulded, and the lens element has a proper retention ring. Yea, you could mess around and get something with similar functionality, and for some that would be fun, but the finish and implementation will not be the same.

My Canon M50 was stolen a year ago when visiting San Francisco, I bought a Sony to replace it and this is the first lens I bought. Tickled pink to see you reviewing this lens. It's great for training composition as you called out in this video.
@DavidWRankinJr26 күн бұрын
I just bought this, despite a “no more lenses” promise to myself. It sounds like fun, and it’s not much more than a trip to the Indian buffet. It’s also probably cheaper than a Canon body cap…. Try it out, then use it as a neat body cap if you don’t like it as a lens.

I superglued a 52mm-82mm step up ring onto it (the base fits straight into the pattern) - so now i can attach filters (mostly in my case IR filters for full spectrum photography)

@MrSimonj197027 күн бұрын
Limitations enhance creativity for sure. I don't have much gear, but I usually get my best results when I go out with a single small prime - usually my Viltrox 40mm! I want their 28mm pancake, it's a bit faster and sharper than this, but not as cheap (still under $100)

When I saw these oreo lenses I was sick with envy. Because at the time, they weren't available in sony E mount. Anyways one day they popped up and I got mine, I've took some of my best pictures with it. It's just amazing! It makes your camera into a pocket street camera, it takes (potentially) great photos, it's just ridiculously cheap, and crazy cool. Pure fun, epic value. As long as you keep a normal lens for evening/night, as, due to the narrow aperture it suffers in poor light.

This is a perfect lens for Fun. When I am shooting events,mostly sports, I normally have my work camera/cameras tucked safely in my backpack until needed, but my trusty Fuji Sex-E1 is out and ready to take fun people shots. This Oreo will fit nicely with the google eyes on the X-E1 and I’m sure we’ll hopefully give great goofing around s pictures.

I bought one for my Sony. It is fun to play around with, which is always a motivator to get out and shoot. The pictures are actually not that bad. Probably because my expectations weren't really that high. I think I paid $12 for it plus shipping.

@ofthenearfuture26 күн бұрын
This is a Fuji QuickSnap disposable camera lens, which imo is "better" (sharper) than the Kodak Funsaver 30mm F10 alternative. The only issue I've found in adapting these plastic lenses is that the original disposable camera bodies had a curved film back, to negate some of the inherent distortion of these single element lenses. So you will notice the image quickly falls apart in the corners and the LOCA gets really bad, because this was supposed to be corrected by the camera itself, which obviously can't be recreated. Now, that doesn't really matter because it's not like you are buying this for perfect image quality lol, you are getting it for the vintage film vibes that you can recreate, the price, and the casual nature of shooting it. It's to be creative and have fun, and it definitely provides that! I think if someone were looking for a more modern rendering but still the disposable camera experience and field of view, with a similar size and cost to this, I'd also recommend at the 7Artisans 18mm F6.3 Mk II

I'm curious about this lens on full frame, something the video doesn't discuss much. In particular, since the lens has a fixed f/10 aperture, wouldn't the greater dynamic range of a full frame body help offset the small aperture of the lens? Particularly help to reduce blown highlights or crushed shadows.
@NickWeissMusic27 күн бұрын
Mark says it does project to a full frame with vignetting. I know when I use adapted APSC lenses, I get hard circular vignetting. Sometimes I keep it, sometimes I shoot in APSC mode. It’s nothing but a crop if you’re using the same camera. I notice vintage lenses tend to have a little less dynamic range than modern lenses, which makes it easier to keep everything in the middle of the histogram, so one could assume that a cheaply made vintage aesthetic lens might do the same. Your question boils down to pixel size more than anything, bigger pixels will offer more dynamic range, so if you went from a same megapixel small to full frame, you would see some minor dynamic range improvement. I shoot APC and full frame and that’s not a significant driver in my camera choice, lens construction has much more to do with the registered dynamic range in my experience. So my guess is, yeah, sure you might get a little improvement going to full frame, but the lens likely delivers “lower than typical” dynamic range to begin with.

Kinda out of topic. Ttartisan 27mm AF 2.8 just arrived 4 hours ago. I havent seriously tested it but in my initial test in my room, the auto focus is kinda bad. What is wrong? Pair it with Sony A6400

There seems to be a lot of sample variation with that one. Mine is fairly decent and quiet but some people apparently got poor focussing loud lenses. I do exclusively photos, no idea how it works with video.

I have my Oreo on my proudly Canon M50 M2 its a really funny lens! By the way I have a question , for night street shooting what is the highest ISO I can use on my Canon R50 producing acceptable images without compromising the quality of the picture?
27 күн бұрын
Go out and try, then see what you think is acceptable. I know 6400 is borderline unusable on Canon's older 18MP APS-C sensor, so I always had auto ISO set to max 3200. On my 20MP Nikon APS-C, I go up to 8000 comfortably, and up to 10000 if I _really_ need another 1/3 step. That said, modern denoise programs, especially those with AI, like from Topaz or DXO, are an amazing tool to enable night photography. A lot of this has to do with whether you are willing to sacrifice print size, if you print. If you don't, then just don't zoom in and pixel peep. For an Instagram post viewed on an iPhone, even basic color noise removal is usually good enough.

@alibarancelik890327 күн бұрын
Since mirrorless cameras have pretty similar flange distances (around 20mm), it's easy to adjust everything by changing the mount ring thickness by a couple of mm. Nikon F however has a massive 46.5mm flange distance, so they would need to produce an entirely different lens for that. I wouldn't hold my breath.
@PeterR003527 күн бұрын
@@alibarancelik8903 I know, and Canon FD/FL distance is 42mm, Canon EOS is 44mm. Me, personally do not ever want to use mirrorless. Maybe someone knows something similar to the OREO lens, but, like stated, for Nikon F...
@OriginalWatchcow26 күн бұрын
There are a handful of body cap style lenses for F-mount, but you are going to find they are in the 45mm or longer. Pinholes and zone plate caps that are lensless are choices that have been around a long time. Most of the variants I have seen for F-mount, can't use the plastic lenses from disposable cameras, but the lenses from "toy" cameras like Diana or Holga are an option. A Holga 60mm f8-ish option is out there.
