I am from Barberton Ohio. Born just after WWII. A lot of Serbian, Croatian, Hungary, Yugoslavian and Polish family's were first and second generation. All these folks were hard working, intelligent and fine people. They were machinists, tool and die makers that made our town a safe and wonderful place to have been a boy in the 1950's. The churches and restaurants and the the strong family connections are mostly gone. I miss them.

I think we have this superiority complex where we think people were more gullable and more privy to mass hysteria before higher education was more widely available. I don't know about anyone else, but I think our modern world has proved that we are just gullable (if not More so) today.

The Overton window in action. 100 years from now or even less, people will say the same thing about us and our blind faith in fake news and propaganda... while blindly following a new trend of bizarre ideas themselves.. The problem today is that higher education today does not guarantee forming a critical thinking in person. And most people tend to ignore common knowledge in favour of their wishful thinking.

This story and location reminds me of a story I read as a kid called The Solider and Vampire. It tells the story of a soldier's sister falling ill and the people believing it to be the work of a vampire. The solider deciding to act set out to find this creature, knowing what to look for and even having knowledge of how these creatures greeted each other through stories of the region. The solider search the surrounding hills and trails until he found a cloaked stranger who he greeted with the sign. The two individuals struck up a conversation as fellow creatures of the night. The solider had found his prey or so he thought as the vampire not only admitted to attacking the girl but said he would do the same to the solider as he knew who he was. The individuals battled and ultimately the solider was able to deal a death blow to the vampire, upon returning to the village he found his sister had recovered from the vampire's attack and was in better health.

I have a story, thats is from my mother that i think would fit nicely here. Theres this Polish town on the German-Polish boarder called Gubin, and near that town is a hill or colection of smaller hills around a big one, with paths, trees and a amazing view, but that place is called by the locals as "Death Mountine". During WW2 and after, that place saw some action and a lot of people died, some yet to be found, but it was also heavily mined by the Germans, and after the war a lot of sappers died trying to demine the area. Fast forward to the 2000s and my mother and father go over there for there date (yes i know, odd place for a date) and everything goes well, untill it turns into night, and my mother said how she was getting a unerving feelling of being watched and a sense of, like someone telling her to leave and get out, she even said how she looked at a area with some trees and said how she felt several pairs of eyes looking at her and my dad. Around 2 years later my father returned to that same area with a metal detector, and in that same area where my mother said that there were several pairs of eyes watching her, my dad found the remains of i think 4 soviet soldiers. Thats where the story ends, and because of this story and some of my own experiences, im a firm believer in ghosts

Honestly, it was most likely something in the trees. There are many different terrifying things running around. Unfortunately, they aren't just in remote/dense forests anymore. People will get that being watched feeling when they are around or even mentally told to leave. That feeling of being watched is extremely strong, especially when it's something that hates you.

@@gabrielwojniusz1993when I lived in Germany one of hitlers summer homes for hunting had its remnants still on a hill above it. The place was bombed to hell and most of the remnants had been scavenged or taken. All that remained was bomb craters and some metal rusted fencing. However my neighbor took us up there once pushed a large rock to the side and revealed the metallic entrance to the bunker… just one look was all I needed to feel chills. He said he had never gone down and nobody else he’s known ever has. Nobody liked going up there and he only took us bc we didn’t believe him. The walk out of the forest was extremely nerve wracking, a complete change in the vibe. Never went back and totally understand now why no one’s ever gone down there. It wasn’t shame, it was fear.

Plus, I'll queue a list of those I've listened to before, for insomnia nights because all 4 of you have voices I can focus on, as they are easy on the ears, and get to that meditation place to drift off.

There's a story I remember from More Scary Stories series about a sister and her two brothers encounter with a Vampire. They lived next to a graveyard and the sister gets attacked several times, so the brothers end up guarding her and shooting the "creature" in the leg as it escapes. In the morning they follow the blood trail to a crypt where they discover a mummy like corpse with fresh blood on it's mouth and a new bullet wound in the leg. They pull it outside and it bursts into flames supposedly. The story is said to be a true account from the brothers' journals.

Similar things happened all around Eastern and Central Europe. Every country has it’s own stories. The vampire hysteria went so bad in the Austrian Empire (Especially in Serbia and Hungary for example in Dés) Maria Theresa himself took effort in prevention after 7 living children were burned alive

@@panchoromine6841 No, most of the time only the dead bodies got harassed. For example in Russia they throw the corps into lakes or cliffs. Bulgarians cut their legs, Hungarians shot them with silver bullets. The poles impailed the body from behind. Venetians nailed their skull and put brics into their mouths. At some places they also put sickles, scythes or a moldboard into the coffin to cut the body into peaces if it tries to move at night.
