One nit. Goliath is described in great detail. In the story he is a 10th century Philistine. He is described wearing the amour of an 8th/7th century Greek Hoplite.

Wow. I respect that you have made your opinions, but you are taking a huge leap to say that David didn't kill Goliath. I see you have challenged a bible reader to think deeper on these things with the different verses. That's fine, but you have to compare scripture with scripture to get a complete understanding. Spreading this information gives me the impression you don't have faith in the GOD's word. If I am wrong please correct me. We read in 1 Samuel 17: 2 David killed Goliath in the "Valley of Elah" Then in 2 Samuel 21:19 We see Elhanan was fighting in Gob and killed what we are told is Goliath. Well later in 1 Chronicles 20:5 We are told that Elhanan killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath. I think this additional verse and others should be included to make any conclusions. Also see Samuel 21:9 where again we are told David kills Goliath the Philistine. My thought is when we look at the Bible as a whole we see a bigger picture and comparing just two verses doesn't give us a clear answer. I don't claim to know answer (although I have my thoughts), but to me it's clear these are not the same Goliath and David did indeed kill Goliath as we are told in 1 Samuel 17.

If you scroll to the 6-minute mark, we discuss that passage and why it says that. The broad consensus is that the Chronicler was faced with the discrepancy while adapting Samuel, so he changed two or three letters to similar letters to turn “the Bethlehemite” into the direct object marker plus the word "Lahmi", which isn't really a name (it means bread), and turned the original direct object marker into the word "brother", since they look pretty similar in Hebrew. "it's clear these are not the same Goliath" Since both passages describe him the same very unique way as having a spear "like a weaver's beam", it really does seem that the text is talking about the same Goliath. If you allow for the possibility that the biblical authors didn't mind combining different traditions in tension with each other, then the possibility that El-Hanan was the original slayer of Goliath has the most explanatory power. At the end of the day, I want to understand what the Bible says and how it was written, even if that challenges religious dogma about the Bible.

Well to the Chronicler it was the name of Goliath's brother. But, it's not a name that was ever used again, so it probably was a corruption of Bethlehemite (lehemi = Lahmi) in order to create this new character, Goliath's brother.
