Very interesting subject to discuss about in those days. Thank you Robert. You're definitely right. People rush over to trends to feel include and telling other people to go educate themselves when they clearly unaware of the full story too. Ignorance can lead to confusion, and then to be easily brainwashed. Explore, learn and see both sides before deciding to talk about something.

This is problem with social media and short form content. People see a few posts with a few slides and subtle information with out the full context or watch a quick TikTok video and don’t realize the situation is deeper and more complex than what they know. But this stupidity is going to get worse since everyone is online and they get information like this

I also developed that bull shit meter during my life. I used to think that I had little knowledge about most things when watching other people being so assertive on different topics. With time, after learning some things, I realized that most of what I heard about those things were not exactly right. So, I started figuring out that most people convince themselves that they know things, and I started being suspicious about everything I hear, and if I am curious about that subject, I do my own research. I would not pretend I know a lot and what's right, but probably enough to sometimes identify what's wrong.

I'd say that on average, in a classroom of 30 people, 1 or 2 are analytically minded, and are innately interested in understanding (and capable Of) the core mechanics of the subject at hand. It requires a sort of selfless interest, where the interest of understanding the truth goes above the interest of personal gain. It's not really many people that are predisposed for that, and it's not a ''good'' predisposition (on a personal level). Because it means that you will analyze and find the truth, regardless of whether it benefits you or not. Most people will just act in a way that steers them towards personal gain. For example, most ''protesters'' will parrot slogans that will make them popular. They don't care if those slogans are ''real'' or not, actually they usually never are. They are a sort of ''bullying'', not steered towards an intellectual conversation. Like the people marching for ''racism'', they haven't even cared to check the real numbers in official data... yet they are destroying towns and private property, on a supposed ''racism'' card. It can be easily deconstructed, yet they march on. They don't care, as long as they fit in the group. This is how humans are predisposed. We would not be able to form societies otherwise. Example: imagine a society where everyone is truly thinking. Who will follow a leader into battle, to crush the other society? No one. No one would believe the bullshit pretext to go and die in battle to conquer the next society. It follows, that all societies where too many people are ''thinkers'' have been crushed by those other societies, where the leader could use as a weapon 99% of the population. We are genetically predisposed to have only a small minorities of people that are selflessly seeking the truth. It's a natural consequence.

On full display exactly what Robert outlined I witnessed today by executives. The conviction almost rises to anger and a gittyness of certainty. Spice in the narcissist tendency, dismissal of a detailed review of the questionable and others concerns tenderized by bogus reasons why the thought was really something else but I didn’t read the memo so I’m ok in the ignorance. The kinds of insanity we have to tolerate to feed our needs is the reason you sit there. Here I listen and try to learn I don’t agree with everything but the learned parts proffered interpreted in sincerity I will always really appreciate as we look for answers. A heartfelt thanks for what’s it worth and my devotion to your mission and work.

I have been finding having confidence in the little that I know to be helpful in my line team, as here, it is easy to be dismissed and essentially ignored. These days I prefer being wrong in front of everybody than to keep quiet about what I think I know to be true about the subject when someone with more experience says otherwise. It is a painful way to learn, but I never forget what I take from such embarressing moments of being told you been wrong this whole time about a subject. But it only happens once for each subject, I make sure of that, as in the moment, I gather all I can to ensure that I will never feel that pain for that subject again. Am 30 now, and am still building my database of painful lessons, so far so good coz am still alive and even more confident and healthy. I am getting used to this type of pain, I choose it at times.

Well trial and error is an inevitable requisite to success. You must venture out into the unknown to create, and you will inevitably fail a succeed sometimes. The key is to utilize the knowledge that goes along with it. Emotion is a deterrent; it will skew a straight pathway; that’s where people tend to go wrong. Because if you think long enough most steps should be rational common sense: Think of math; it’s pure logic. If you aren’t good at math you’re getting the basic concepts wrong, though it’s not the math itself it’s you, first principles would state that sequential steps towards the complex would inevitably be common sense, if taken the right steps. It applies to any domain in life, that you are trying to climb, get better at, or reach. Then what tends to happen is that they repeat the same actions, out of cognitive dissonance I’d assume. I say this for the set of masses: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. 110% conviction is a sign of ignorance and disintelligence. There are always exceptions to everything, even that, and also other options to consider. It’s always best to think before you act.

Once you begin to gain an appreciation of a subject over a number of years, you realise that there are a multitude of angles and perspectives and yet still an incredible amount to learn. This realisation then starts to spread out into all the other things you think you have some understanding of and it changes the way you think in general. Increasingly I find myself just listening to others, somewhat inhibited, particularly when it comes to heated, contentious issues and perhaps offer a considered view later - once I've had some time to reflect. I find it harder now than ever to offer an immediate opinion on complex subjects - the truth often lies somewhere in between the two poles. Thank you, Robert.

What is half knowledge? At what point is it that we can justifiably speak with conviction? Does emotive expressions necessarily indicate Dunning Kruger? Or perhaps we can be passioned from any point along the continuum of knowledge for a given subject so long as we remain open and rational enough to consider other perspectives as new info comes in.

It's real problem that people, when you can empirically show them that they're wrong and how taking a different tack can help the group as a whole, they dig in because they hate you for being "smarter" than them. Their intransigence is their power and the only way for actual smart people to win is to somehow co-opt the stupids. IMO, this is also how smart people go to the dark side-- stupidity is an unlimited source of energy which can easily corrupt once utilized.

The main issue with serving information as a product in general is that in order to sell it has to be eye-catching, ''baiting''. When compared, 100% objective strictly factual information loses to fully or slightly biased alternative every single time in terms of clicks/views/likes. Such situation creates 'echo chambers' and 'info bubbles' where people only hear/see what they want to. And that's exactly why FOX and CNN are the way they are. I'm yet to figure out how to get people interested in knowing full story behind an event, instead of intentionally consuming slanted version of reality. Not to forget that political agenda is a requirement for successful career in today's mediasphere, hence strong uncovered bias. Also we have a phenomenon where headline is almost more important than article itself, therefore most journalists tend to seek borderline criminal sensationalism instead of sticking to professsional ethics: ''White Supremacists attack mourners after teen dies in yet another traffic stop gone horrible wrong'' - millions of clicks worldwide. ''Violent mob targets Asian shop owners during street riots'' - millions of clicks nationwide. ''Clashes in downtown City: 2 men injured, 5 arrested. PD investigates'' - a few thousand clicks from concerned town citizens.

Feel like this is hypocritical. You just spoke about how you must take action even though you might not know everything yet. I'm writing a wargame, while I acknowledge I garnered some satisfaction from learning things I thought I already knew, it took me years to get to the point I am now. I don't think I can get more knowledge by reading more. I'm forever frustrated by this idea of imposter syndrome of not having enough knowledge yet or maybe I do know more than enough to do a lot of good work damage to the project. Read and study forever, knowing we'll never actually know everything. Or take action, relentless careful action.

It depends on the information and sources of the research. When you put the puzzles next to each other, you will find the truth the others don't want you to know. For instance, Iranian mullahs have been getting help from the UK and USA since 1978 when Carter took the Shah out and put Mullahs there, but in the news, they are pretending to be enemies, and the outcome of supporting mullahs is the war in Israel. So now, am I stupid or intelligent?
