Remember the Young Avengers? Remember when readers weren't throwing their toys out of their prams when Marvel introduced a young analogue team of original Avengers who were different yet connected to their predecessors? Remember how a few years later this idea that the core Avengers are universal concepts and we could have new versions of old heroes (obviously temporarily) donning the mantles made some fanboys suddenly wet their beds thinking that, e.g, Thor and Iron Man are now and forever women?! Remember how having a new Hawkeye who eventually met the resurrected old Hawkeye resulted in one of the best ever Hawkeye and super-hero comic book runs of all time?.. exactly. Chill the hell out.

I never had a problem with her taking the Hawkeye mantle. Should have her team up with Simon Williams could have a cool Grim Reaper / Scarlett Vision story. I always preferred West Coast they had the more interesting Heroes growing up.

Wasn't this just a means to replace Hawkeye with a "female version" of him? That's how the character was used in the Disney series, and it's apparently the intent behind the character in the comics.

I have nothing against a new generation donning the Speed (Wally West) or the ring (Kyle Rayner). If it can be done well, people will eventually love the characters. In fact, Kate Bishop was the one that standed out most from the Young Avengers and I kind of liked her character. I haven't read Matt Fractions run on Hawkeye, but I know people gave it a lot of praise. Still, politics tainted the comics and suddenly, the next person to wield the armor (Riri Williams) or the hammer (Jane Foster) were not only inheritating the stuff, they suddenly were superior in everyway and a lot better than the original. Thats the point where you as a author is doing it all wrong, because what is so interesting about a Mary Sue (or a Gary Stu) that will allways win? Where is the tragedy, where are the consequeses, at what price are you becoming a superhero? Not saying that the characters missed that. Some who inherited the Shield (Bucky Barnes) where just the naturall choice and the one that wants to honour his or her predecessor. But then, we have the danger of favorism. New characters are not developed enough, and because of influence by Me Too, hbtq or current politics like Black Lives Matter, it was much more important to make the new characters a lot superior from the old ones. And very often, those same characters become very stupid in their decision. Also, the new characters, that includes all that inherited the titles this last decade, by making them Mary Stu's and Gary Stu's, believe it or not, other characters will suffer hard. Im not talking about the original heroes, that are suddenly inferiors, new authors uses well known villains which in the past were really a menace, but encountering these new heroes, they become suddenly nerfed down. Character victims of this is like Juggernaut or Doctor Doom (in some versions). But, there is not exactly a recipe. Sometimes people wants to go back to the roots. I mean, two jewish guys gave the world hope, by creating Superman, a foreigner and the last of his kind from a people that got exterminated. Have in mind that in that time, there were a lot of superheroes that were strong and far superior from the villains they fought. While I will never understand what made Superman stand out, maybe the name, maybe what he stood for ("Truth, justice and the american way") but he was the Gary Stu with a heart and care for all. In conclusion, I allways say that you can make a character as strong as you want, as long as they can be defeated. But I haven't seen any comic where Kate Bishop could be the good character she has the potentiall to be. Still, I will watch the new show from Disney + and see if they really do something good.
