Another theory is that the first gongs were actually created by people working with bronze trying to make weapons and shields....then they realized when they hit the bronze shield how powerful they sounded.

A lot of would, should and speculation. Wheat was first cultivated in the area of Jericho, says archeology. I am missing the sources were you have got your story from… Maybe you can share it? Have a look at the ancient greek museum on Kreta about their archefacts…

Not noisy when played lightly enough. Different gongs are tuned to different frequencies. And have different effects

Gongs originated from Java, but of course, since its relatively unknown geography, people would rather erase doubt or ignore it. Whats new? Science and history will always prefer to mention popular names of places. That'd give u a higher chance to win grants.
