Before the Ranger Creed...
Before the Ranger Charters...
There existed Rangers: rough men who stood up when their country needed them, who volunteered for the most dangerous missions, and who met their enemies eagerly and with ill-intent.
This is the story of 2nd Ranger Company
From 1950-1951, the Buffalo Rangers, the Army's first and only all-black Ranger company, lived up to their name by overcoming blistering cold weather and a severe lack of proper clothing and equipment to fight and win some of the toughest battles in the Korean War.
The original Airborne Rangers, they were the first Ranger unit to parachute into combat during Operation: TOMAHAWK. This historic jump, along with their grit, determination, and refusal to be defeated by challenging situations, forever cemented their legacy and established a blueprint for combat excellence for all future Rangers to emulate

I remember hearing about the 2 Ranger Co. diring RIP. We had an RI that was obsessed with the toughness and absolute grit that these Rangers had. When I graduated and was sent to 2/75 in 1991, along with all of the normal daily business that goes with being a private while in BN, I was given "homework". And one of my "homework" assignments given to me by my squad leader, was to study different missions that had been specifically assigned to different Rangers over the history of the Rangers. One of those very assignments was the 2nd Ranger Co. In Korea. And at the end of the week, I was to give a report to my platoon and answer any questions that were asked about that subject. At the time, I hated that "homework". I getting about 4 hours of sleep a night and truly didn't understand why any of this "old stuff " mattered. Again, thats how most privates think. After 21 years, and a lot at 2/75 or regiment I retired in 2010. Throughout my journey, I slowly. (Because I am hard headed) I picked up what those above me were trying to teach me. And at aome point it all clicked. They were teaching me that its not about me. Its not about the squad, platoon BN or regiment. Its about the lineage of the Rangers. The absolute toughness and grit that so many before me had sacrificed. As i gained rank and responsibility, I implemented this same "homework" assignment to my guys. And I hope that that continues to get passed along. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video and read my comment. To all my brother Rangers. Sua Sponte. RLTW!

I have a question for you: is it true that the 2nd Ranger Battalion is considered undeployable due to war crimes committed in the '90s? I had an Army vet tell me that recently, but I find it rather hard to believe that an entire battalion would be punished for the actions of a few. Especially when the majority of people in there today wouldn't have been born yet/a legal adult in the 90s. It just doesn't make sense to me, you know?
@bobk2899

@@FrauWilhelmKlink The story that you are referring to has to do with a situation that had occurred with a former ranger who, along with 3 others, who decided to rob a bank in Tacoma, WA with the intentions to start a biker gang in Canada. After being caught the former ranger tried to make a deal with the federal government by making allegations of war crimes that he had witnessed during his time in Iraq and Afghanistan. Without going into too much detail there was a full investigation conducted and not only was the second ranger battalion investigated but so were members of Delta Force. All of the allegations were found to be false. With that being said, the BN was cleared and at no time was BN suspended from deployment. Yes, there were some Rangers that were not allowed to be deployed until the allegations were cleared. I hope this helps answer your question. Unfortunately, there is always going to be that 1% that makes everyone look bad. No matter if they are soldiers, police, firefighters or whatever profession. I wish you and your family all the best

I recycled twice, once at Mountain and the other at Florida, but earned my scroll and after I deployed in Operation Just Cause, earned my Tab and went on to JTAC after I reclassified as 13F. Being in Battalions was the hardest and most humbling experience in my life and I was proud of my service, and so was my father who served in Korea and his brother who fought and died in WWII. Our family as a whole has had a long list of service members on both sides and my youngest nephew who also served in the Navy on Fast Attack subs in the Pacific group... As Black Men, we should be proud of those who fought before us, going back as far as Crispus Attucks, to our current men and women who have proudly served our country. as i recall, the 2d Airborne Ranger Co was taken directly from the WW2 505th Parachute Inf Rgt (black segregated), 82d Abn, and used the ww2 ''2d Ranger Bn'' scroll patches, from the PX, modified to indicate ''2d Ranger Co'' via sewing-kits needle and white thread. unique to US Army heraldry.

I partially watch the videos on the Korean conflict? mainly to see if I spot my dad or any of my uncles who were there when the bullets were flying. I was stationed in South Korea when two of our officers were killed 18 August 1976. I was back in country in 1979 when President Park was killed and I would roll by the student riots. I was stationed on the southeast side of Seoul and had to go up to Youngsan numerous times a week. There was at least one period when the battalion was getting in new trailer-mounted generators and I had to go get them. As soon as I dropped it back on the compound I went for another until we had them all. That's when I really realized that I should have changed my MOS to Transportation. Well, a decade after active duty I went into transportation with my most proudest day was getting my Class A Commercial Drivers License. Getting the paperwork just made me want to strut around with my chest out.

I really believe military recruitment is low Because the average young person doesn't know about the totality Of american military heritage. All they know about is World War 2, And then we are in Iraq. For a few years.. Our military history is as diverse and dynamic and extraordinary as the American people themselves. Yet, Totally underrepresented. Just like the korean war itself. This was the first war of the new age. Setting the stage for Vietnam, and all the conflicts after. Rich in stories. Not just M.A.S.H.
