Years ago a Hooter's restaurant got sued by a waitress over "Toy Yoda". Seems they had a competition over who could sell the most beer and the prize was announces as a "New Toyota". At least that's what everyone heard. When the winner went outside to collect her new car she was shocked to see a Toy Yoda sitting in the lot. She sued. And she won. usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/2002/05/09/toy-yoda.htm

The major problem with these is the fact that the memory on these is not rewritable (unless you have specific hardware, but results vary), but thankfully the memory is quite easy to replace. Battery life is fantastic, and even though you can use just about any stylus on it, they tend to stop working for some reason after a few months with heavy use. Also, each one has a custom font, unique to each user. It's quite the marvelous design, and very forward thinking (pun not intended).

My dad worked for IBM from 1981 until his death in 1998 and he always had one of these THINK pads. When my mom passed away in 2015 I was going through her things and found the last THINK pad my dad had had. So you are right, they we're around even after the personal computer and laptop generation came about in the early 80's. And yes, my dad would go to work every day with his THINK pad in his business suit jacket pocket. I was just browsing through IBM vids you have up and immediately recognized this small pad. I doubt they used gold edged paper in the 80's and 90's and my dad's was red in color, but that unmistakenable gold embossed logo and the leather'y feel was still on the last pad I found. Very interesting vid.

I'm on a W520 from 2011. Still works pretty well, though it's starting to show its age on modern web pages. Some HD video lags if I've got too much stuff going in the background. Still pretty happy with it, even after a forced Windows 10 upgrade. Upgrading the HDD to an SSD helped a lot also.

They moved BACK to it in 1983. The previous building at 590 Madison was IBM's headquarters from 1938-1964. The lack of a ZIP code in the address definitely dates it before the 1960's.

I often get the feeling when people say "people don't think" they are really criticizing people who don't agree with them. I also think this is what people who really don't think would think. Ditto for people who bemoan a lack of "common sense", its more a lack of "common consensus".
@Chaos89P
@Chaos89P 6 жыл бұрын
For me, it's literal. It seems to me, and that whole Tide Pod thing is a perfect example, that people sometimes act before they think, if they think about it at all. That's also the problem with a lack of common sense, they just don't think before they do something stupid. It's probably also why you see so much bandwagon jumping.

The problem with that philosophy is that it's the same multiple opinion degrading the value of truth that we've seen in recent decades. It rids any common man of the possibility of pointing out the obvious and be taken seriously. Oh, it's _just_ an opinion!
