There is a cinematic award far higher than any Oscar. That is the status of a "Legend" - which Ray Harryhausen certainly earned!

Sindbad's 7th Voyage is one of my biggest childhood movie memories and to this day, one of my favourite dragons. Before a long trainride, that one will find it's way onto my iPad together with Highlander.

My favorite Harryhausen films have always been Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans, and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. To me, those are his greatest works. I remember renting those VHS 📼 from the video store as a Lil kid and watch them with my Grandma at her house. Now I own them on DVD 📀 to me those are the GOATS in his film career.

The Calibos transformation scene has always stuck with me. As a Catholic school kid, it was how I imagined the Morning Star's fall happened. The most beautiful & beloved of the Lord's minions, turned hideous & wrathful due to pride & envy. At least the horror of Medusa could be subdued by her rack...😲

One of Ray Harryhausen's first jobs as an animator was on George Pal's Puppetoons. It was fun to find out that my two favourite stop motion animators both knew each other.

Harryhausen was right when he said I don't want my creatures to be too real because it takes away from the fantasy and sci-fi aspects of his films. Stop-animation is a wonder all on its own that CGI lacks.

Clash of the titans is my favourite film. I used to watch it daily. One day my father and i went to london and didnt have a plan. I googled what was on and I was lucky enough to see all the harryhausen collection consisting of all his monsters including medusa and the skeletons from jason and the argonauts in the london film museum back in the day. It was a one of after he died. A true film making pioneer in special effects. sadly the figures would have rotted away by now😢

You mean stop-motion puppet monsters. Because the KING OF THE MONSTERS is Lovecraft! ❤😁 By the way, I love stop-motion and I'm learning to do stop-motion right now. But since I'm alone it's a bit of a slow and tedious process. But yeah, I like the old classic effects maybe combined with a little CG for more polish. 😁 Great video.

Good job. Minor correction though: Ray didn't start working with Charles Schneer until It Came from Beneath the Sea. 😉 Also, no Mysterious Island clips? 😜

As I have noted elsewhere, it would be lamentable and unfortunate to discover that some of these props may have ended up in some bone yard somewhere. And for equal time I hope you are not minimizing the work and contributions of George Pal or Mr. Disney proper. And, I would never place CGI in the same class as these Giants of cinema. The humongous crews of CGI will never match the talent that these men had as a single individual. Oh, come on now, "Avatar" was 98% CGI, no real acting.
