This is like a Studio Ghibli One Piece OVA, that is the feel the animation and ambience gives me. Definitely more mature/sentimental while still retaining some comedy. I’m with Nick on this one, having a whole arc in this style would be craaaaaazy.

The old ova must have had a slightly bigger budget, but the real reason it looks better is just different teams and better production time than the weekly anime.

It's never about budget. It's about people who work on it and about the production schedule. If it's a TV that is on a constant strict production schedule that has to rubber band it's source material in manga like one piece than of course they'd outsource most of the generic work to the "fodder" team and only invite some maestro like Shida Naotoshi for important scenes to flash it out. OVA/movie production is different.

Though i can see where one would be coming from when saying the old movie has better animation, I feel like overall it has much less personality and style. I much prefer the full-send commitment to the over-the-top, rubber-hose looney tunes style. I.G's version just blends into the landscape of every other late 90s action anime, imo.

I will prefer old style unlike now animator love there work and animation more defined and detailed then now and like vibrant colours. But one-piece is doesn't not follow same style or art you find difference between arc and even sometimes between episode especially used on wano arc.

Usopp & Robin are pale skinned in the Manga. They had darker skin in the Anime because Toei took a guess at their skin tones & guessed wrong. Post time skip Anime made them more in line with their Manga counterparts & of course a section of the internet decided to not look into it but just REEEEEEEEEEING!!! 🙄

You can shorten this to: the One Piece anime would be a ton better if it was a seasonal show. I don't think any studio could have done it much better weekly if filler arcs aren't allowed anymore. But seasonal wasn't a thing when One Piece began to air and the only way to get it to seasonal is to start a new show (which they do now).
