We had the Tams at our 50th High School in 2016 and it was fantastic! I would not give anything for having them there!

I saw the original Tams in 1971. Joe Pope was so friendly and nice. He tried to get me to sing a little bit of "Be Young, Be Foolish", but I couldn't bring myself to sing...haha He bent down and kissed my hand. Such great memories! This was in Spartanburg, SC...

@DebiNga Robert and Joe are the two surving members of the original tams, years ago they parted company. Joe re-created his version of the tams with his son, and Robert created his version. So in reality there are two tams at this time. Last I heard Joe was very sick and no longer performing and his son was performing with Joes version of the Tams. So that would make Robert Smith the last of the Original Tams that are currently active. Thanks for watching,

+kharmachanic Tell me please whats the definitive answer...Who was the original lead singer on "Be Young Be Foolish..." ?
@GeorgeWasADJ5 жыл бұрын
@@cedarshoals529 Joe Pope.
@tacogillespie45615 жыл бұрын
@@cedarshoals529 As George states Joe "Bit" Pope was the lead singer of the Tams until his death in 1996. He is the singer you hear on all the recordings.

This is an interesting trick video. The video is the 2010 group with Robert Lee Smith, an original member of the Tams. BUT, the music is from the 1960's group with Robert Lee Smith as a background singer, with lead vocals by Joe Pope. Joe Pope died in 1996. The music in this video is not from the group in this video.

You are correct George. Nobody sounds like Joe Pope. He was one of a kind. The smooth gravel in his voice can not be duplicated.
@lindalee1358 Жыл бұрын
Yes you are right George , there is no one with a smooth gravel voice like Joe's , but Charles had a nice voice,

if you think that the current Tam's are great and reflect the originals. Joe pope and the Tam's are the Tam's. the new guys are fun but far from professional and projecting the class that they are stealing from..
