While online was huge for Xbox, it already set itself apart for being more powerful, and it showed it onscreen. Running large worlds like Halo CE coop with physics, bump mapping, vehicles, tons of enemies onscreen, there was nothing like it. Riddick, Doom 3, the list goes on, the machine was a beast on top of the best online.

I bought a brand new OG Xbox last January and I was pretty sad that Xbox Live was defunct last 2010 for this system but after hearing this. I can finally experience the childhood I missed long ago. Can't wait to play Project Gotham Racing 2, Sega GT Online and perhaps Halo Online!

What year and month was your xbox manufactured? The ones from 2001 and 2002 had unreliable DVD drives.

@@califaern3sto Unfortunately, mine was made in March of 2002. I got it brand new but there seems to be something wrong with the DVD drive. It can sometimes play games but most of the time, I had to keep resetting the XBOX. But when the CD begins to spin and shows gameplay videos on the screen. It doesn't freeze at least. What's odd is that, while it can read Project Gotham Racing 2, Forza Motorsport and SEGA GT. Project Gotham Racing 1 and Midtown Madness 3 doesn't work for some reason while it works perfectly in my XBOX 360.

My first xbox was bought in February or March of 2002 and it came with jet set radio future and sega gt 2002 and not even 7 or 8 months afterwards it stopped wanting to read discs. I bought another one in 2005 and that one was also manufactured that year in January and the thing still refuses to die

@@oberonb-6129 yeah, from about mid 2003 onwards but to play it safe the ones from 2004 and 2005 are best, and get component cables to play most games in 480p!

They said theres some playable games by aug 2020, i wonder how that looks and if they can at least show us anything of the dashboard being online, from what i heard, only certain xboxs will be able to connect online due to security reasons, huge let down so far.

They're working on it. Last post they made about it said they are mid rewrite. They said progress is slow because they all have families and day jobs and are doing what it took a huge company several years to do without the resources they had. They're basically reverse engineering the whole thing.

How will this work if I already have downloaded patches and map packs? I played Rainbow Six 3 (along with Black Arrow) regularly and most likely have the latest version. How will an Xbox that’s never gone online communicate with mine? Will patches be available or will I have to delete saved files?

No no. The service of Xbox Live belongs completely to Microsoft. They won't give them just a Server of them, they shutted it down. I'm pretty sure, you need to update your Original-Xbox in a way to make it possible. Probably afterwards you just need to put the Ethernet cable in and play. But you need to update it once a Pc, I think. I'm not sure and if anyone reads this, please correct me, but that's all I know.

It would be nice to see Microsoft just let the Xbox Live keep it running on original Xbox and Xbox 360 keep it flowing I mean one way or the other I'm sure they make money off of the service either way I mean for us fans keeping the Xbox brand staying alive towards the Series X it could give the brand a better recognition to be the first company to support older to newer generation consoles

Halo CE on Xbox didn't have online multiplayer, just local. Only Halo CE on PC had it. 343 would have to update the game and add Xbox Live support for it to work (assuming Microsoft reopened the og Xbox Live servers)
