It’s hard for me to remember the very first time I saw a comic book. In my mind, it just seems like they were always in my life. I do remember in 1974, when I was 4 years old, my mom bought me a lot of Batman comics. And one day in that same year she told me that there was a Batman show that with real life people. (She was referring to the Adman West show) I didn’t believe her. And when the animated opening credits started I remember saying, “See? It’s a cartoon! It’s not real life!” And then shortly afterwards, when Adam West came on the screen, I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe my eyes. That was a life-changing moment. Then a year or two later I fell in love with Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman (I was a horny five-year-old…haha). So my mom would buy me Wonder Woman comics. But the comic that changed my life next was 1976’s Daredevil 138. It had this skeleton-like creature (Death’s Head) choking Daredevil with another skeleton riding in to save him. And the other skeleton had his head on fire! Of course, that was Ghost Rider. And it had this bright, awesome pink background. My six-year-old-self carried that comic wherever I went. And I still love that character today. And the 1960’s Spider-Man cartoon made me fall in love with his comics as well. Batman, Spider-Man and Daredevil were my main guys when I was under 10 years old. I think a lot of us used to buy comics from the new stand/convenient store down the street from our grandparents. I still have a lot of the ones (some in frames) that I bought at the Lawson store a few blocks from my grandmother. In the early 90's I was spending 30-50 dollars a week on new issues. So I kinda stopped around 1995. Now I just buy back issues from the Bronze Age.

Great video Geezers - my 1st comic was FF # 126, back in '72 - The Way It Began - my first panel I saw, Dr. Doom standing over an unconscious Sue and Ben opening the door surprised as hell. The book was written by Roy but that art. Oh man, Big John Buscema with Joe Sinnott. 50 years later I can still close my eyes and see that art. How lucky of a sonofagun was I?

I started when I was 6 or 7 in the early seventies with stuff like Donald Duck and Bugs Bunny, usually in the packs of three or in digests. In 1974 I bought my first DC, Batman 255 (a 100 pager with Neal Adams art). Several months later, I bought my first Marvel book, Marvel Team-Up 24 (with Spider-Man and Brother Voodoo). I bought comics regularly at either 7-11 or the local 5 and dime until 1980 when my interests were shifting to girls and rock music. I sold off most of my collection from that period. I returned to collecting in 1988 and I've never really stopped since then. I still buy some new comics, but mostly independent, non-superhero stuff.

I would stand at the comic book rack while my Mom would Grocery shop. Thank God I wasn't abducted. Lol. In the early 70's comic books had a social stigma, wasn't "normal" lol. I'm 54, been an avid reader all my life, I credit my Mom buying and allowing me to read my Avengers comics. Still have them all. Really enjoy the channel guys. Cheers!

Welcome Regie to our show. We have a lot of videos for you to browse through, but I have to warn you. You better pack a lunch. LoL! Average video time is 20 minutes, but if love ❤️ comics is shouldn't be a problem. Best regards from Wild Bill.

It was 1974 and I was 9 years old when I brought the Mighty World of Marvel. It contained black and white strips of the first Spidey, FF and Hulk stories. But for some strange reason, I didn't start collecting until a year later when they gave the comics glossy covers. Then I was hooked and imagine my joy when I discovered the original colour US imports. Like your good selves, the 1980s arrived along with Jim Shooter and things didn't seem as exciting, everything seemed safe which led to me stopping collecting. I ended up selling my collection to buy albums and guitar strings!

Cool stuff! I was an avid reader and collector from '71 to '75, didn't pick it back up till '84. Fell out again in '90 as far as buying them, but I've kept up with the good stuff and buy trades and Hardcover compilations. The mid 80s are when comics grew up. There's been a lot of good stuff since then. It is a disease, but I don't need no cure.

LOL! Exactly! No cure needed. I sometimes wish I had stuck with it, but man, the late '70s and early '80s the stories and the artwork really were quite lacking. I agree though, what I've read from the mid-late '80s was much better. I commend DC though for really stepping up their game since the '90s- much of the newer stuff I read these days is from DC.

7:15 Thats a two part Mysterio story. I have both of them. #s 66 & 67. I scooped the three of them including the #60 with King Pin , one night in 2001. $15 each for the two mysterio issues. Had to grab em. Incidently its important to note, that these very Mysterio Stories were the ones presented in the 67 series cartoon. Only for some reason in the mini circus story Mysterio was presented without a costume, had a green skin and smoked from a plastic cigarette holder. Go figure. Even though the cartoon episode called the ' Madness Of Mysterio' sported his full costume. Weird. Was Bakshi taking a s##t or taking something else there?

Andrei Boboc - try Midtown comics online. They're a store in New York and you can order just about any new issues from Marvel ( or any other publisher). I don't know how much shipping would be for you. Hope that helps.

@@andreiboboc1779 Also try mycomicshop.com - I use them pretty regularly, and they have basically everything you could ever want, with VERY affordable shipping.
