I grew up in a Dutch/American subculture. Jews were looked upon as Gods chosen and were respected as such. My philosophy professor in college was involved in hiding Jews during WW2 and had amazing stories.

Very engaging topic! I am always interested in how you weave Jewish history in the context of wider historical events.

Thanks again for a well produced and informative video. One thing I noticed that was throwing me was the effect the green screening was having on the reflection in your glasses. The background is being laid over the glare and it's making a strange "hole in the head" effect. You may be able to implement a mask over your face to stop it from applying the background. Thanks again for all your work and your generosity in sharing this with all of us out here. Cheers!

Another excellent talk; many thanks. There are some great stories about Spanish and Portuguese Jews helping to finance the revolt of the Netherlands against Spain which was of course the turning point in the respective fortunes of the Spanish Empire and what became the Dutch Republic. The so-called Spanish Netherlands didn't do so well though I suppose they are OK now as Belgium.

So, if I’m understanding you correctly, if a nation wants to remain a nation that reflects its own indigenous and long standing exclusivity and cultural identity, it is behaving medievally, and if it opens up its borders to the whole world, and is willing to relinquish its historical essence, it is then progressive, some sort of progress has been achieved?

It's a good interesting talk but how long before people realise that the Jews colonised and managed all the lands along the borders of the Roman Empire after Hadrians expulsion? ( Many were already settled from the Assyrian expulsion after the first temple was destroyed and they migrated along the Danube to the Netherlands).

Many people would ask, oh why only exist hebrews in Germany or Russia? Because of this, in the muslim world, there was forced conversion and not problem at mery jew people, what was a problem in Europe

If you expel the Jews from every nation, where are they supposed to live this argument makes no sense. I believe that the dutch have the right idea and the whole world would do better and be healthier if they would take the same approach. But human beings are imperfect. As you said about Luther. He started out one way and ended up another. Human beings are never consistent. Thank you so much for your great lectures.
