My favourite cocktail is Sidecar and according to one story it was enjoyed so much by an old French military man of high ranks that he often had to be driven home in the sidecar of his motorcycle.

I imagine that Gimlet ended up that way because most people hear the name and spell it the way they know from a common tool rather than a guy’s name.

Y'all ever try a Miami Vice? It's half a strawberry daiquiri and half a piña colada. It's good. My favorite cocktail will probably be the Moscow Mule, Long Island Iced Tea, or the Bartender's Rootbeer (coffee liqueur, Galliano's, lime juice, club soda, and Coke)

During the later part of my college years, I often made my self either the White Russian, Black Russian or Irish Coffee after dinner. They are easy to make and delicious! My favorite drinks, however, have to be the Espresso Martini followed by the Long Island Iced Tea.

Love the Long Island Tea and the Moscow Mule. Made both at home and got them down to a T. (Recipes typed up on computer too if I forget) One day I mixed both up back to back and double-fisted them. The contrast of the sweetness of the LIT with the Tart and ginger bite of the Mule is a good combo. (Please drink responsibly!) ;)

The Americano - I thought that was the name for a shot of espresso coffee with hot water added to it. When US soldiers were in Italy during the war, they found the Italian coffee to be too strong. They weren't used to espresso. They would add hot water to the espresso so it would be more like drip or percolated coffee.

Limes and citrus juice actually went bad aboard a long voyage so they tried adding, liquor, sugar, and other preservatives to try to increase the longevity of the vitamin C in the juice. Sugar won out, which is how we eventually get the gimlet. Sailors had a lot worse food than straight lime juice so I doubt that is the reason the drink was created.

i used to drink black opals somewhat regularly back in my 20s, my favorite was at re-bar (rip) in seattle. i can't remember who introduced them to me but long island ice teas were my default drink when i went out so it was probably inevitable that someone would suggest i try a take on the formula, and i'm a sucker for raspberry and/or blackberry liquor so it was a total winner. i went to new york in 2012 and my friend and i spontaneously decided to go to stonewall inn because we're queer af and wanted to pay homage n get trashed like you're supposed to when you go to dive bars. it was slammed, so my pal went to go scope out seats for us and i went to order the drinks: 10 minutes of waiting and the bartender says "what?" and i said "a black opal and a gin and tonic please" and he blinked at me and sputtered "no black opal" and walked away to the other end of the bar. i stood there totally unsure what to do with myself. 5 minutes or so later he came back with the gin and tonic and said "what?" and i, pathetically, whimpered "rum and coke?" and that was that. come to find out, black opals are known by name mostly on the west coast, or more specifically the Portland-Seattle-Vancouver BC region. a year later i asked a bartender in berkeley if they knew what it was and she did and then a few min later told me she was from tacoma... so, yeah. i switched to other drinks after some time, and just before the pandemic i tried one for the first time in a few years and it was absurdly sweet. so, no black opals for me indeed. uhh the end.
