This has been my go-to drink for 20+ years. When I was in college in the early 2000's I tried to order it at a bar, and the bartender didn't know what it was and acted offended that I was ordering it as such instead of just saying "gin, soda, lime." I haven't had the nerve to order a gin rickey by name since then, so this video is incredibly validating. My taste in cocktails has gotten more complex since then, and I usually order something more elevated when I'm out now, but since I'm type 1 diabetic, this is still the best low sugar drink that I know of. Great video!

Diabetes really sucks and ruins a lot of things. In case you aren’t aware, alcohol converts to sugar in the body. You may want to have him check with his doctor, so he knows what he can and can’t do with diabetes.
@Petrosman6 ай бұрын
@leeanderson7339 he is allowed small amounts of sugar, since insulin breaks down a lot of the sugar. He just needs to control his sugar intake, and alcohol is not as big of a problem like say hard carbs and sugars. And plus in a cocktail it's a relatively small amount of alcohol.

My mum has diabetes too, so I’ve learnt to use erythritol (aka monkfruit) as a sugar substitute for my cocktails. Comes without the terrible detriments of aspartame and without the diarrhoea that comes with xylitol. The erythritol works in everything from daiquiris to tommy’s margarita’s to long islands. They have both white sugar and brown sugar variations. 0 calories from the sugar, whatever you consume will just be passed out. Never turned back!

On a hot summer day, a nice simple cocktail in this style can be very refreshing. It's not going to be overly sweet and it's easy to tweak to your own personal taste or mood. This would be a great one for me when doing something like spending a weekend sailing, or camping somewhere. It doesn't require a lot of tools, and it's quick and easy to make. Great video.
