I think that up until this point Darulio himself underestimated the power his pheromones had on humans. it's one thing to just convince a partner to have sex, it's a completely different thing to enthrall them so much that they forget common sense and are willing to let people die just to stay with you a bit more. Maybe the fact that his species doens't really "love" and they just mate when they're in heat left Darulio with no real understanding on what that chemical could do to a loving species like the Earthlings
