@@ClearCritique Agree about some dialogues throughout the movie. Though I was really surprised as I was expecting a cheaper looking summer blockbuster-like horror movie. I don’t understand why late night with the devil is not one of the best movie nominees. I thought it was certainly better than the first omen and long legs. I do not share your adoration for either of those two. Late night was not only gorgeous to look at. It had more atmosphere than the nominees or winner you chose for that category and was every bit as intense and exciting as the substance, in my opinion. I think your video is good, but I don’t know that I agree with that many of your choices.
@gabrielhamnerКүн бұрын
I believe Terrifier 3 should’ve been nominated for practical effects, as the whole film hinges on them. The sound design and fantastically done practical effects really aid the film.

Smile 2 deserves a nomination for opening scene (not better than LongLegs, so agree with you there on the winner) and the sound pallate and atmosphere in it was phenomenal, the best of the year. Other than that, the selects are great, just seems there is a subjective dislike of the film.

Thanks for the video. I learn more and more about horror movies and cinema in general every time I watch a video. the best horror movie score that I know is from The Insects of a movie with Franka Potente and Sean Harris with the title "Creep", (2004) not to be confused with these other 2 movies from 2014 and 2017 with the same Title. A very underrated horror movie, very scary and with a fantastic atmosphere due to that score.

the vibe is the problem in Alien: Romulus. The location reminds me of DOOM 3 the ego-shooter, in the way it looks, but ....anyone who has played DOOM 3 will know, what a great opportunity such an abandoned military environment can be to create a perfect horror atmosphere. Claustrophobic and dark. Doom 3 scares the hell out of the player with its atmosphere. I don't know how they did it, but that is NOT the case in Alien: Romulus. I wasn't scared once in Alien Romulus even if it looks very similar to the futuristic facilities on Mars in Doom 3. There are jump scares, sure... but jump scares are the cheapest way to get the viewer's adrenaline. Alien: Romulus has some good scenes. It is like a science fiction action thriller. But most of the action is just running away from the Xenomorphs. There is nothing new to see here. The prequels, Prometheus and Covenant were innovative and had a story behind them. Both prequels had epic images, great atmospheres, and outstanding actors. Just one example for Prometheus: remember the fight scene inside the escape drone at the end, when she tries to escape. When that big guy of the alien race (humanoid-looking big guys) had a death fight against a large parasitoid alien thing with tentacles like an octopus, the alien guy lost that fight when a tentacle entered his mouth. What an epic scene. The best CGI parts of Romulus are the space scenes, especially a collision with a planetary ring. But the visuals of the 2 previous films remain unmatched - sorry. Also the actors: Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshal Green, Michael Fassbender, Sean Harris and more. It's beyond me how some people consider Romulus even as the best movie of the franchise besides the original Alien and rate it 9 or 10 stars.
@pointysidedown4 күн бұрын
Ya i agree, I could rewatch covenant or Prometheus, romulus no way

omg if you consider what Cage was doing in that train wreck of tied together tropes great acting, anything at all can be on this list. Where is the bar at for great if you love everything? The Substance has attention to detail? What about the detail screaming into your face from early on about how none of the is remotely physically possible. That detail can go in the trash, as well as the end version looking like a creature out of old disney horror.

First, I don't want Hollywood anywhere near my Horror. They tend to turn everything into Superhero (God) flicks. We should have awards on some remote haunted Island in the middle of the Atlantic or Pacific, as far away from LaLa Land as possible. I'm tired of the "run away failure kid syndrome." Now, for the films, what was building up to be one of the worst years in horror, turned out pretty good. I can't disagree with any of your pics, they are all deserving. I just wish that the Theatres for watching movies were still around, instead of those horrid multiplex boxes at Malls all over the place... I would rather watch it in my home theatre, at least I don't have to hear what's going on in the box next door. Great choices, Cheers.

Great video, I loved seeing this and horror movies get the love they deserve. But, OMG I'm really over this whole fan service thing. Especially with the times I've heard "The first one was better"! The purpose of a movie is to please/entertainment as many of the people in the audience, while hopefully making a profit, is it not? Make it worth their money. "No, let's not give the fans what they will enjoy"! It's really a laughable statement to make about almost any type of entertainment at all. Well considering this with the aliens franchise, the first ones were the most popular and made the most money. (Besides Prometheus which I consider a totally different movie) And I believe the first, Alien would have done much better but it had limited theater release

The reason why the horror genre doesn´t get recognition is because of horror fans talking up movies like Longlegs. Longlegs is bad on every level and not even worthy of straight to dvd. All done hundreds of times before and all were better. Boringly bad. As a viewer you are not interested in any of the protagonists and the jump scares are so predictable and useless. The Cage character is completely uninteresting and so are all the other characters. So yes...when the horror fans keep saying that the worst movie I have seen in the past 20 years is a great movie...well it says a lot about the genre.

I hated Dennis Quaid's exaggerated performance...... and her neighbor across the hall as well...... and the ending was just so stupid........ just trying to slap around a bunch of goo and effects to impress the viewer.....
