@robertmartinez2941
@robertmartinez2941 4 ай бұрын
@@Charlydx21 I think Andy Williams brought them to prominance in the late sixties singing barber shop quartet type of music, then when they saw the success of the Jackson 5, they modeled themselves after them, with songs like One Bad Apple. The rock part probably started when they were a little bit older, especially Donny. I just recently saw a video them performing/singing Yo Yo on I believe the Flip Wilson show. It is amazing, not only could they sing, but they could dance...great timing. They're lip syncing, but it's still a testament to their level of professionalism, the lip syncing really didn't matter. Sign of bygone era of talent.

I used to listen to this tune on a Panasonic turntable my sister had bought for the family. This was back in the family farm in Mexico. I was only 13, the only Mexican farm boy listening to hard rock back then, Imagine Led Zeppelin's "Whole lotta love" at full volume in a place where everybody was stuck on folk farm tunes, surely the black sheep and out of place with the rest of the village, something I deem as a positive. 😁

@@keithjones7390 Osmonds dad had tight control over the band and concieved the idea as a way of making money like the jackson family. a mormon version of the jacksons. this is all very well known. alan and merill osmond were getting frustrated at their dads musical control. so they conceived a plan to create a rock album. they hired a studio and the brothers could "play instruments" so they didnt have to learn. alan and merill recorded the album. and handed it over to the record company. when their dad found out he hit the roof. and he was worried that this album would hurt their target audience. so crazy horses. was released and it bombed with the teenage girl market. so when they went back on the road. they opened the show with crazy horses. then as their dad had orded them to do so, they put their Guitars and instruments away, the stools came out and they sang songs that the teenage girls wanted to hear. the guys who were there for the rockier sound walked out.

My mom always tells the story when she first heard/saw this song on tv. Everybody (including herself)was expecting a "sweet song" by these "clean" guys. She didn't even like the guys because of that image. Then that sound at the start happened. My grandparents looked shocked but my mom instantly loved the song. Bought the record next day, still has it too.

@Jim Doire If you're arguing to do away with genres altogether, I'm down with that. Genres are a marketing tool to segregate the market and sell more product. But if you're going to actually define music by what's commonly accepted, then this song ain't metal - it's significantly closer to funk or glam - metal wasn't even a defined genre when this song was released, Black Sabbath was just hitting the scene and nobody was even calling them metal at that time.
