good vid , wondering if it will also scan OBD1 systems with the older adapters and cartridges
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs4 ай бұрын
Yup! I didn't talk about it, but I have the older OBD-1 attachments for Toyota, GM, and Chrysler. Works good.

Hey does Jaguar have any options in there for ecm reflashing on a Jaguar xk8 2001?

No reflash with this one other than a few small things in older GMs.

Hello! Sorry for the stupid question, but i have been searching for a Genisys scanner to buy and have came across 2 version. One that said “EVO” on the top and one that doesn’t, like the one in this video. Is the EVO one faster? And can I update the one that doesn’t say EVO to the latest version? Thank you
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs5 ай бұрын
The evo is the newest version. It and the older gray model are the same speed AS LONG as the gray unit has a red power button. There are older gray units with a black power button that are slower. Hope this helps!

Thank you for responding to my previous question! Do you also know how I can update the tool to the 2015 version? Thanks!
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs5 ай бұрын
Sadly, even though the software is still available. Once its been updated it asks for a code that you used to get from OTC's website. About 2 years ago they took that site down and I no longer know how you would go about getting around that. System 4.0 is pretty robust and works without the code.

@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs that sucks, mine is updated to 2010 so that should be good enough. Thank you!

Still use mine from time to time still a great tool global obd2 will still pull codes from the newer 2019 and 2020 vehicles thru the automated system test its slow but will read all modules on the car i just bought the scope module and exhaust gas analyzer to keep it rolling into the future
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs8 ай бұрын
That is cool to know that it reads the 19 and 20 models. I agree that it can be very slow

There are special connectors- You can get them on Ebay pretty cheap

Sir can you shed any light on a gensys evo 5.0 that I can't unlock its new and still in demo mode.i understand the servers that were used to do this on line no longer exist. Can I install an older software to be able to use the tool?
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs4 ай бұрын
I really wish I could help you! Reach out to the OTC 1-800 number and explain the situation. I really hope they can help. OTC was bought by Bosch and they decided to screw millions of genisys owners.
@andybryant4904 ай бұрын
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs well I called . They said that in there notes...we no longer support these.. the servers that performed that on line function no longer exist. The were dismantled and taken away. But is the tool locked? Or is the 5.0 card locked. ? Can I go back to say 4.0 or 3.0 ?

How did you manage to get the update? Over dial up or over a CD? I recently acquired the device and it has Pathfinder 2004 and couple other 2003/2004 SWs.

It's a disc, but the image of that disc can be found online. Sadly they no longer support the unit so keep that in mind.

@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Would you also mind sharing the parameters of the charger? Mine is missing and the guy I bought it from isn't sure, which one is the right one (he has a box full of chargers). I'm assuming something like 12 - 15 V DC, center positive, but I'm not sure and don't want to fry my tool. I can charge the battery using a lab power supply, but a power brick would be a bit more convenient. Thx.

It's a great tool for older USA made cars. OK for older Asian cars, and crummy for Euro cars. That said, there are a LOT of better newer options these days.

The 1996 to 1998 Volvo's are finicky when it comes to scan tools. This one is not a good pick for that task. Look for an older Autel Maxisys.
