I remember I commented on your last video a few weeks back that you did on your Mitsubishi. I bought my daughter one in June of 2024. And so far even though it's only been 6 months it's a phenomenal little car. i am so glad they will continue to sell them. i did hear the same thing that they were going to be discontinued after this year. They're just great little cars. I so miss the simpler times.

I am loving my 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES, metallic wine red. You sound a lot like me. I'm not looking for status with my car. I'm all about practical & reliable, which the Mirage delivers on. I never grew out of that '80s phase either. I love hatchbacks. 3 out of my 4 lifetime cars have been sub-2500lb hatchbacks with under 100hp. I've had my Mirage for almost 10 months, 9k miles, 48mpg lifetime (actual)--although I do use my old beater for shorter drives that get worse mpgs. The Mirage was the perfect choice for me, given what else is available. $18.5k out the door. I have removed the back seat-backs. I push the passenger seat forward and put a cooler on the floor behind it, and I've got over 6' of flat space on that side, then couch cushions turn it into a mini camper. I would prefer the manual climate controls instead of that stupid screen and buttons. I don't like forward collision mitigation, as many cars have had errors with that, including false beeps on mine (fortunately the car realized its error before applying brakes), so I turn that function off every time I drive it. I love having a real key! That is so much more secure.

I love the Mirage and little affordable hatchbacks in general. I wish Americans would get over their egos and bad spending habits and get back to reality with cars like this. I guess there are still a few of us around with old-school sensibilities. Regarding the auto climate control, you can turn off the beeping. I forgot how to do it, but I know I did it in my 2014. Also, you can select if you want the AC to turn on automatically or not as you adjust the temp. I think it's set to turn on automatically from the factory. I turned off that feature so I had more control over AC usage regardless of cabin temp to free up power and reduce fuel consumption.

In America all they want to sell us are bloated over priced cars that are not reliable. The car companies are really only thinking about profit over what people really want. It is absurd that someone would spend $80,000+ for a new car. That is more than my first house

I have a 2017 with 145,000 miles. I never did a tune up. I never changed the transmission fluid. I change the oil about once every 9,000 miles with cheap oil and cheap filters. 3 air filters. 4 sets front brake pads. 2 sets of front rotors. 3 sets of tires. Only 2 batteries. Only repair was 1 alternator. I might buy one before they disappear and park it until i need it.

I get 40 city 50 freeway in my 2017 SE Mirage. 120K miles so far and I do all the maintenance myself, I knew nothing about cars when I started too. Does everything I need it to do, with roof racks I can haul my kayak and bike, I want to get a hitch for more add ons. Only problems I had with it was the driver window falling down (free fix), camshaft position sensor failing($10 from junk yard) and rattles that I can't find even if my life depended on it.

I own a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES, in yellow like your Wifes, it does have the CVT. I got it September 27th, 2023, and I've put 33,400 miles on it so far, it's been a great car! I change the engine oil every 3,500 miles, and I changed the CVT oil, and filters, and dropped the pan, cleaned the magnets at 15,000 miles, I'll probably do it next time at 50,000. Either way, the car has been mostly reliable. At 30,000 miles a light bulb for the shifter light down in the center console died, I got it fixed under warranty. And in cold weather my center screen would quit working, that was a loose fuse, fixed under warranty. I have noticed sand feeling chunks in my oil every time I change it, like I'm getting metal in the oil. I am starting to hear a bit of a knock sound when the engine is cold for the first minute or 2, then it goes away. It's alarming, maybe it's always done that. I really like the car, I use it as a cargo van, it's great for what I need! I have averaged 53.3 MPG over the life of the car, which is great!
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs 26 күн бұрын
The knock sound is the CVT warming up and it is normal (mine does that). I am not sure about the sand/metal feel, but they have the 10/100,000 warranty so I would not worry about that as well
@extralock1045
@extralock1045 25 күн бұрын
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs The problem is, to have the warranty stay valid, I must use Mitsubishi 0W20 oil, and the Mitsubishi oil filter. I've been using the Kirkland 0W20 oil, and for about 15,000 miles I used Wix, STP, Fram, and Mobile1, and not Mitsubishi, but the 2nd half is Mitsubishi.

Love Mitsu's. I have a 2016 Lancer 5-Spd, one of our kids has a 2011 Outback Sport FWD, other kid had a 2015 Outback Sport AWD and then got a 2023 Outlander PHEV. Hundreds of thousands of miles driving and we have never had to add a drop of oil. I only have 91K miles on the Lancer, but besides oil and other fluid changes, I have only had to do wear items, like tires and rear brakes. Like you, I like the key and manual climate controls in mine. The Bluetooth and steering wheel controls for my phone and music work great. It has AC, cruise, power windows and locks. Just the options you want/need and none of those annoying options that don't make driving any easier and will probably just break. Oh yeah, my wife is constantly on the lookout for a Mitsu for herself to replace her Subie. We're all big fans. They just work.

All and all I’m happy with mine, not a car “for everyone”. But all the car almost everyone actually needs. I’ve had a 2019 es hatchback for 6 months. I agree on the so-so Seat comfort and small size of fuel tank. Rear seat legroom is better than many small cars. With 4 people in it you’ll hit the rear snubbers in the bigger bumps. The HVAC system is “adequate” on a hot day, but if the car has been sitting in the sun all day, it takes a long time to catch up. Very much reminds me of driving my ‘87 Corolla, but much better highway performance.

Mine is a 2015 CVT almost full options (I lack the infotainment screen, but I hate infotainment screens, they are distracting). Lots of dealer options too. Now, 87000 miles, and here too, not a single defect in all those years. Not even a light bulb. I had one small rainwater intrusion from the roof and one generator belt that was squeeking. I did renew the front brakes (normal wear). The only downsides of the car? Sunshades are too small and the front wheel alignment seems to be very sensitive. The third is coming up (steering wheel off center). I get over 50 mpg on average in northwestern Europe (densely populated area).

There are some years of Rangers that had transmission and engine issues, I would avoid them. If you are going to have a camper on the back, you want to make sure that the transmission is stout- Adding the extra weight can lessen the life of it. Factory recommendation is 50.000 miles. I adhered to that. Beware, if you let the dealer do it, the original fluid is expensive.

I would do 30k filter and fluid. Clean magnets, pan sludge and inspect pan screen filter every other fluid change.

For the 2018 with the CVT. Do you guys do CVT fluid exchange with it? I know one youtuber does it every 20k miles, which I thought to be a bit excessive.
@Have.An.AmicoDay

change the cvt fluid and cartridge filter every 30k... cvt's need clean fluid to function properly, the Mirage is fantastic because it can not overtax the cvt, but the fluid still degrades thru heat.
@Cade55
@Cade55 23 күн бұрын
@@Have.An.AmicoDay Alright. Yeah I'm considering the Mirage used when I need a car in 2026, when I graduate. What if I can find a Mirage without over 30k miles, maybe 45k. That hasn't had the CVT fluid change, does that mean that car is screwed. Or if as long as I get it, and change it, and change it for the rest of the time I have it it'll be okay?
@Have.An.AmicoDay
@Have.An.AmicoDay 23 күн бұрын
@@Cade55 I own 3 mirages, so this is my best guess. Cars that are regularly driven on the interstate, allows the fluid to get hot and remain hot, and that is the time when the fluid degrades the most... some people on the forum had it 130k with no issues and never changing the fluid... others had problems at 80k when not changing it. I changed the fluid myself on a 21 ES CVT and the milege was 28k... the cartridge was just about plugged at that point... but was totally 'fixed' when a new filter/fluid was put in place. The filter was doing its job, but at 30k its at the end of its useful life, and dedrigation starts to happen. If you go long enough, the fluid with turn into actual crud, and become stuck in the tiny passageways, and then because fluid isnt flowing, will heat faster and cause over heating, which damages valves, pullys ect. I would say the car is good upto 60k... if you cared about the car (ect)... you could do a drain/fill (easily on your own) and then shortly after, do the full service, and you would certainly clean up a significant more amount of dirtyness in the cvt... the longer it goes, the worst it technically is... this is true with any cvt, not just the Mirage. **Its just me, but i'm doing a drain and fill every 10k going forward, and every 30k (every 3rd drain) change the filters. Fluid and 'reliability' is cheap, changing out a transmission and brakedowns are difficult and expensive. *(You also want to do oil changes, no longer than 5k, and a drain/fill of the radiator every 2 years.... Mirage is so easy to work on for most jobs. I would go so far that its the most easy to work on automobile available for sale in 2024 (at least in USA).

This is a "world" car. Made for economy and used in third world countries for transportation. Easy to service. Simple. Crude and useful. I've heard used engines from wrecked cars pop up on eBay for $700. I'm sure it's dangerous as heck in bad rain and hydroplaning is scary. But using common sense and logic and being cautious is a must. That's the price you pay for economy and good mpg. It's probably loud and not so luxury but who cares? Rough it out and adapt. Avoid tractor trailer on the road and drive with defense mentality. I would choose the 5 speed every time.

I never experienced hydroplaning and I live in a very wet country (the Netherlands). If you keep your tyres good, that is not an issue. As for standard features it is luxurious, but the materials are sturdy, but cheap. As for noise, you are right. There is a bit more wheel and wind noise above 55 mph, but on new, smooth asphalt I measured it at 67dB (A) at 60 mph and that is on par with any middle class car.
