This is a fundamental concept in 3 cushion billiards that you must know and master!
Let's first review the known half of the halves system.
Let's look at the halves system, playing on the long rail and that is mainly used to turn the corner, starting from the long rail.
The formula of the halves system is that the attack point in the first cushion corresponds to the middle of the starting point.
On screen we show examples, for the start values 2, 4, 6 and 8.
The unknown part of this system corresponds to the start from the short cushion, and the attacks of value 5, 6 and 7, which we will see later in this video.
Next we present the halves system playing short cushion.
The formula is very simple, since the value of the attack in the first cushion is equal to half the value of the start, to achieve turning in the corner; which has value 0.
In this example we have a starting value of 60, if we play at the value 30, in the first cushion; we will manage to turn in the corner.
Now let's take a look at the little-known half of the halves system.
The little-known half of the halves system, playing on the long rail, corresponds to the starts from the short cushion, since attacks with a value of 5, 6, or 7 are almost never discussed, and much less about the start values 10, 12 or 14.
Here we show you how to place on the short rail, the start values 10, 12 and 14, which are used with the attack values 5, 6 and 7, to achieve turning in the corner.
Let's see some examples:
Despite having seen the above, we still don't know how to play the following type of caroms:
Stay connected and you will learn how to play them.
A key concept in this type of play is the angle of value 4 and an adjustment that is used, when we start from the short cushion:
On the screen we show a base angle of value 4, measured from long cushion to long cushion, and an aadjust of 0.7 diamonds that is used when we start from the short cushion.
All black diagonal lines are parallel to each other, and therefore have the same angle value.
This angle value is 4.7, which corresponds to the sum of the angle value 4, plus an adjust of 0.7 diamonds.
Let's see how this concept is used:
Before, let's see the arriving lines from second to third rail:
The arriving lines from second to third cushion are very similar to those used in the plus system, and always depend on the conditions of the playing material.
In the image we show the main lines of arrival from second to third rail.
In this example it is important to remember that we can use side english to extend the second cushion arrival.
For each english that we apply, we earn half a diamond, in the arrival on the second rail.
Here is an exercise to train this important concept, playing with 2 balls!
