The OTHER Jumpstart 4th Grade - Sapphire Falls

Great video, I think that Haunted Island was shelved because it was known for crashing pretty often. If that was the case, it made sense as to why Jumpstart overhauled 4th grade to make it fit the format of their other adventure games. So rather than confuse people who expected Haunted Island to look a certain way, they shelved it and developed the theme of Sapphire Falls for the new format. Haunted Island is also the only adventure game without a protagonist mascot since the player themself is the protagonist and they probably wanted to remake the game to have protagonist figures.

The pager was a part of JumpStart games of this era. I remember my version of First Grade had it. It appears to be a way to work online interaction into the games. This is also where those purple disc games come into play (Around the World for the lower grades and Adventure Challenge for the adventurer series), they have quite a few online features that have sadly been discontinued.

This game was my childhood! I had a lot of fun with this as a kid. And the educational aspects of it were really good to kid me. Especially getting to learn English, with it not being my native language. But I know the feeling of the struggles to get it running again on modern hardware... 12:28 this minigame has an unfortunate downside. Because you can not activate blocks that are covered up top of block from too many sides, it is sometimes possible to softlock yourself in a minigame, due to there not being a pair of uncovered blocks that you can match. The game at least is smart enough to start the level over in such a case, but it's still a pretty unfair punishment. The game never established that you need to plan ahead for that... Other than that one, I'd say all of the Minigames were pretty good.

I really enjoy your videos on the Jumpstart Adventures games. I loved Mystery Mountain as a kid, didn’t play Haunted Island except when I saw my cousins play it, same with Jo Hammet, I tried playing Mission Earth Quest and really wanted to like it, but it was just too hard and boring for me to keep my interest, and I knew NOTHING about Sapphire Falls until I was much older. And I was especially intrigued when I found out about the SpyMasters games that was basically a crossover with the previous adventure games minus Haunted Island. Hopefully you’ll be able to review one day, because I’m very curious about your thoughts on it, especially since the cutscenes feel very much like those action cartoons from the late 90’s

this game definitely does feel like an attempt to ape what the learning company was doing with the cluefinders, especially since that series was still relatively new at the time this game came out, being a "saturday morning cartoon" style game with its artstyle, even the protagonists give me the same kind of vibe i don't think this works quite as well as those games did though, i get the impression that they wanted to do more with these characters but edutainment games in general were on their way out by the time this game was released, and jumpstart was never really a series that had consistent protagonists or characters between games to begin with, outside of some exceptions

What do you think I was referring to when I said I got one from my friends on the other side? 😆 This was also back when I was just starting my Nick Arcade series. At that time I only reviewed games I owned and wasn't familiar with all the places I could look or strategies for finding these. The only one I could find at the time was the one that didn't start. I had to look a bit further to find one that worked.
