I was passing the Graving Docks in Govan last week and was encouraged to see that the renovation work had started, Both of the funnels had been removed and there was a real construction site feel to the place. It'll be great to see her when all the work is done.

Wouldn't it be magnificent if we could repatriate the RMS Queen Mary too as we did with the TS Queen Mary, Glenlee, SS Great Britain, SS Nomadic, Cutty Sark and many other British ships? I hope for nothing more than for this to happen in my lifetime.

Waverley isn't actually the 'last sea-going paddle steamer in the world'. There is an Australian sea-going paddle steamer called the William The Fourth that is in fact far older than the PSW and still takes to the seas.

William The Fourth is not the original ship from 1831 but a replica from 1987

Hello, Waverley volunteer/PSPS member here, Actually, the William the Fourth is a replica from 1987, and it isn't exclusively a paddlesteamer, it's a sail/paddle hybrid unlike Waverley which is exclusively paddle. Furthermore, unlike Waverley, the William The Fourth was given a Diesel engine and propeller in 2008, so isn't a true steamship. To say she's also an authentic seagoing paddle steamer is like saying that Clive Palmer's "Titanic II" project was going to be an authentic Ocean Liner and not just a gimmick cruise ship. I hope this clears some things up, and wish you an absolutely fantastic day.
