Thanks for this. Eric's Thor was my first introduction to the Marvel Universe. It started with the Zarrko/Thor Corps arc. I really enjoyed Eric's struggle of an average man having the powers of a God thrust upon him. I enjoyed his Thunderstrike run, and he continues to hold a special place in me.

I really liked the idea of Eric as Thor when I was a kid.... It was a fresh take on the character and it reinvigorated interest in the Thor mythos..... Great video, we need one on Forge or Polaris now....

IDK why I love this doof. I saw him in a marvel character almanac, got his issue one at a county fair, and thus build a minifigure of him using an Avengers Thor Head and hair, blue legs from something, and an Indiana Jones torso with peach arms.

I totaly hated it when they replaced Thor with Eric Masterson in the 90s. But by the end of that run, I was sad to see him go. The character really grew on me. So much humanity mixed in with the cosmic god stuff. Sif sleeping with Mephisto to help find Thor was gross, but I suppose that's why Sif never brings up Jane or Amora.

This is slightly off topic, but as a child who has gone through several difficult divorces and the custody battles therein. There should be a rule that if you give up or are declared unfit for parental rights, for any reason, for any amount of time, then you no longer hold any automatic claim what so ever to getting them back. There should be ways that you should be GRANTED those rights back, if the current guardian gives blessing, but coming out of the woodwork after vanishing for most of your kid's life should be met with an automatic "no. screw off." in a court of law.

For me personally though, I thought a better idea for the Thunderbolts movie would be to have each member be like a more violent version of an original Avenger. I always like thunderstrike because he was such an everyman with a good heart and the power of a god. the blood axe mystery was fun to follow at the time too. It's unfortunate he was thrown out by marvel the way he was and got in some ways the worst treatment of all the spin off characters of the time period. (US Agent, Scarlet Spider, Warmachine... ect.)

I didn't see him so much as a screw-up per se, I saw him as a normal nearly-middle aged man who's civilian problems as a divorced dad where a lot to deal with. Add to that being given phenomenal physical & otherworldly powers most of us would not do very well. AND before he was Thunderstrike he had to try to keep up the charade of him being the actual Thor. In that way, he reminded me of an old show called "Greatest American Hero". He did the best he could having no history of training. I live how "human" his struggle was in a way that wasn't overly on-the-nose. That's why he's my favorite hero.
